Job Description:

L3Harris Technologies is seeking a Director of Quality  to serve as the quality functional leader for the IMS Segment located in Palm Bay, FL. This position is responsible for leading a team of quality professionals within the segment. The Quality team ensures delivered products conform to contractual and L3Harris requirements for product quality throughout product lifecycle. They ensure adherence to and compliance with established quality policies, practices, and government regulations.  This includes implementation and leadership of strategies that will directly impact the successful zero-defect, on-time delivery of products. 

 

Essential Functions:

  • Provide leadership, direction and support across multiple Quality Assurance teams (Quality Engineering, Non-Destructive Testing, Product Acceptance / Inspection, Metrology, Product Configuration Management & Documentation)
  • Guide teams to resolve technical challenges, ensuring successful tactical execution
  • Promote a strong culture of quality focused on the engagement of every employee, with adherence to personal stamp warranty, workmanship fundamentals, and attention to detail in the prevention of defects
  • Collaborate with site leadership peers within program management and other functional process teams.  Collaborate with functional peers at IMS sectors and sites
  • Develop and implement team & segment-wide tactical quality improvement initiatives promoting sound and effective principles as set forth in company procedures, customer requirements and government standards.
  • Champion, lead, and support the execution of flow-down strategic initiatives
  • Support Supplier Quality Engineers on programs as required to establish schedules and resolve complex technical or operational problems.  Work with Supply Chain and Engineering to identify, select and develop suppliers.  Communicate product and quality requirements to the Supplier Quality Engineers in the field.  Work with suppliers in problem resolutions including initiation and closure of root cause and corrective actions.  Ensure risks are properly documented, managed and mitigated.
  • Measure, monitor, and take action to ensure quality-focused key performance indicator targets are achieved or exceeded
  • Report to senior leadership on business performance including action plans to improve business execution and status of strategic initiatives.
  • Lead site to maintain certification and compliance efforts for required certifications. 
  • Ensure product quality technology is an integral part of engineering design and manufacturing processes
  • Identify needed capital investment to support business need (including quality process capacity, capabilities, & technologies)
  • Requires up to 50% business travel
  • Ability to obtain a US Secret Security Clearance if needed

Qualifications:

  • Requires advanced business knowledge, general management and leadership capability to lead Supplier Quality.
  • Experience leading a Supplier Quality team in a multi-site manufacturing environment with a track record of delivering quality performance improvements in the supply chain.
  • Typically has broad experience across multiple related professional disciplines within the organization, combining theory, past practical experience and the organization’s business practices.
  • Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 15 years of prior related experience. Or a Graduate Degree with a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 19 years of prior related experience.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • 10 or more years of experience directly managing a Supplier Quality Engineering or Supplier Development organization.
  • 5 or more years managing site quality.
  • 3 or more years’ experience with supply chain.
  • Quality Engineering or Management experience in Aerospace and Defense or closely related industry.
  • Direct experience with fabrication, assembly, test, and inspection processes   commonly used to produce aerospace components and sub-assemblies
  • American Society for Quality (ASQ) Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence.
  • Experience working with Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) and government contracts.
  • Experience with a variety of 3rd party certifications (AS9100, ISO, NADCAP)
  • Experience identifying nonconformance and applying prevention utilizing industry-recognized Root Cause Corrective Analysis tools such, DMAIC, FMEA, 8D, Cause Networks and applying Lean techniques such as Manufacturing Standard Work and Value Stream Mapping
