The Artificial Intelligence Director will be responsible for defining and leading the AI integration strategy across the IMS Segment and will serve as the division’s senior AI leader, reporting directly to the Sr. VP of Engineering & Programs. This highly visible role is responsible for defining, driving, and overseeing AI strategy across products, business operations, and organizational adoption. The Director will lead a team of AI professionals, partner with executives, and act as a change agent and thought leader for AI across the enterprise.

 

Essential Functions

 

  • Strategic Leadership
    • Define and execute a division-wide AI strategy and roadmap, aligned with business objectives and growth priorities.
    • Partner with executive leadership to identify high-value AI opportunities across products, programs, and business operations.
    • Serve as the division’s top technical authority for AI, representing the organization in executive forums, customer engagements, and industry partnerships.
    • Responsible for understanding strategic objectives, setting expectations, and leading teams to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Execution & Technical Leadership
    • Manage the technical development of AI-centric solutions from conception, design, test & validation, to scaled deployment (customer-facing or division-wide internal use).
    • Maintain a prioritized roadmap of AI initiatives tied directly to measurable business value (growth, efficiency, competitiveness).
    • Perform gap analyses to assess infrastructure, data, and resource readiness for AI adoption.
    • Develop, track, and improve KPI metrics related to cost, productivity, and time-to-delivery.
    • Navigate effectively between open-source model ecosystems and enterprise/government AI platforms as required.
    • Define and validate the value of AI capabilities and use cases for both external customers and internal stakeholders.
    • Provide a clear understanding of the ROI of AI investments while off-ramping low-value or misaligned efforts.
  • People & Organizational Leadership
    • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of AI scientists, engineers, and technologists, fostering innovation and collaboration.
    • Drive AI literacy and awareness across the division’s workforce through training, communication, and engagement.
    • Champion a culture of responsible and ethical AI adoption.

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 15 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
  • Proven experience in AI/ML leadership roles, with a track record of shaping and executing AI strategy at the enterprise or division level.
  • Deep technical foundation in AI/ML (e.g., computer vision, NLP/LLMs, multimodal AI, reinforcement learning, edge AI), with the ability to translate expertise into business and mission outcomes.
  • Experience with the development of AI solutions beyond a single business or domain (ex. familiar with a spectrum of solutions and models across computer vision, task optimization, data analytics, natural language models, etc.).
  • Experience with the full life cycle of AI development, associated software stacks, and infrastructure approaches necessary to achieve the solution vision.
  • Experience influcing senior leaders, shaping roadmaps, and communicating AI value and risks to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • U.S. Citizenship required; active or eligible for DoD security clearance (Secret or above).

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Advanced degree (M.S./Ph.D.) in AI/ML, Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field.
  • Experience with AI compliance/ATO processes and deployment in classified environments.
  • Recognition as an AI thought leader (publications, patents, conference presentations).
  • Background in defense, aerospace, or adjacent mission-critical industries.

 

 

 

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $162,500  - $315,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
