About your next Challenge as a Specialist, Electrical Engineering:
What will you do:
The candidate will perform the following design and integration activities for naval shipboard electrical systems:
- Design and draft electrical diagrams, ensuring that drawings are produced in accordance with applicable drafting codes and standards;
- Prepare and review drawings and documentation including electrical block diagrams, schematics and cable assemblies;
- Prepare and review shipboard cabling and cabinet design;
- Design and test for electromagnetic compatibility following military standards;
- Diagnose problems with existing designs and propose and test design modifications;
- Contribute to topside design and antenna placement for performance and hazard mitigation;
- Select cables, connectors and components to meet cost and performance objectives;
- Prepare and review intra- and inter- system interface documentation;
- Create Technical Product Specifications (TPS) to describe selected systems;
- Oversee installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical/electronic systems;
- Work with manufacturing partners to introduce designs into production and solve related manufacturing issues;
- Contribute to internal and external design reviews by providing electrical design inputs or providing electrical engineering review of designs.
- Maintain currency of Electrical/Electronic design best practices, methodologies, initiatives;
- Prepare power consumption calculations and manage power consumption budgets;
- Provide estimates for electrical design tasks for planning and scheduling support
Required Skills and Experiences:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 5 years of prior relevant experience;

- Experience working with naval or marine electronics;
- Familiar with military standards for designing and testing electrical systems;
- Working knowledge of military and IEC standards used for system design and test;
- Knowledge of naval communication systems, including radio, telecommunications, intercommunication systems and data networks;
- Knowledge of environmental, EMI/EMC, and certification requirements;
- Knowledge of RF antenna characteristics and co-site design;
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 and product lifecycle processes;
- Proficient using Microsoft Office and CAD tools.
Eligibility Criteria (Mandatory):
- Must be eligible for registration with the Controlled Goods Program;
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a government of Canada “Reliability” status and Level 2 (Secret) security clearance.
- Must be eligible to meet the requirements for U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
