Job Description:

The Senior Digital Design Engineer will be a key member of the ALST Engineering team.  This individual will be responsible for leading development of FPGAs and embedded software for electrical system and subsystem architectures, analyzing designs to ensure they meet customer specifications, generating block diagrams, and selecting components for the electronics associated with advanced laser systems.

This position requires the individual to have a well-rounded background with deep knowledge of digital design and embedded software engineering practices. He / she must possess the ability to design new control circuitry that minimizes power consumption and thermal emissions by leveraging state-of-the-art components and layout technologies. This individual must have sufficient experience with design for manufacturing (DFM) to minimize manufacturing costs of these new designs. Additionally, the candidate must be able to support product development, verification, and transitioning designs into manufacturing by working with design and development engineers and production technicians.

Essential Functions:

  • Capable of Analog System Architecture for the electronics controlling diode lasers and photodetection circuitry.
  • Component selection to minimize electronics size and power draw while maximizing reliability.
  • Develop and edit circuit schematics and perform circuit simulation with appropriate software.
  • Ability to develop and make technical presentations to L3Harris groups.
  • Supervise and/or provide guidance in design certification tests and document results.
  • Troubleshoot component failures and investigate root cause of failures in system applications.
  • Recommend design improvements for failure prevention.
  • Monitors and defines priorities for the projects he/she is working on a daily basis.
  • Responsible for ensuring that specified quality standards are met for all tasks completed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
  • 9+ Years experience analog circuit design and digital circuit design
  • United States citizenship is required.
  • Able to work weekends and evenings as required to meet company objectives.

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience in power supply design and EMI prevention is a plus. 
  • Experience in power supply design and EMI prevention is a plus. 
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot electrical issues and resolve problems on a variety of equipment.
  • Knowledgeable of Military Specifications/Standards.
  • Experience with FPGA fundamentals and VHDL is a plus.
  • Ability to use lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies and pulse generators.
  • Hands on experience with test and debug of analog circuit boards and high-power electronics.
  • Possess exceptional communication (both oral and written) and listening skills, with a strong orientation to details, and the ability to make quick, informed decisions.
  • Must be able to effectively flow down system requirements into a system test plan.
  • Demonstrated ability to make design review presentations to technical audiences including engineering, manufacturing personnel and senior management team members.
  • Proven success in a fast paced development and manufacturing environment and possess a willingness to take ownership, accept accountability, and thrive under pressure.
  • Experience with programming in Labview™ (and C is a plus).
