Job Description:
L3Harris is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Components Engineer to join our Electrical Engineering group. This position will play a critical role in guiding the selection, qualification, and management of components used in our defense systems. The engineer will collaborate across multiple departments, including Engineering, Mission Assurance, Quality, and Program Management. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in engineering or materials science and a passion for learning and applying technical standards to ensure compliance and reliability in high-performance systems.
Essential Functions:
Parts Selection and Qualification:
- Evaluate and approve new components for use in defense systems, ensuring compliance with technical requirements, reliability standards, and environmental constraints.
- Assess components for suitability in high-stress environments, including shock, vibration, temperature extremes, and humidity.
- Collaborate with design teams to ensure selected components meet performance, lifecycle, and manufacturability requirements.
Prohibited and Nonconforming Parts Assessment:
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with prohibited or nonconforming parts, materials, and processes.
- Ensure components meet industry standards for reliability, such as MIL-PRF-38535 for microcircuits, MIL-PRF-19500 for semiconductors, and MIL-STD-11991 for parts management.
- Evaluate components for issues such as susceptibility to corrosion, stress cracking, flammability, and solderability.
GIDEP Alerts and BOM Management:
- Monitor Government-Industry Data Exchange Program (GIDEP) alerts and assess their impact on Bill of Materials (BOMs).
- Develop and implement strategies to address component obsolescence, counterfeit risks, and supply chain disruptions.
Database Management:
- Maintain and update a master database of all components used in the system, encompassing thousands of parts.
- Utilize advanced Excel skills to manage, analyze, and cross-link data across multiple spreadsheets.
- Ensure traceability and accuracy of component data for compliance and reporting purposes.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure components align with system requirements and program goals.
- Support Mission Assurance and Quality teams in evaluating component reliability and compliance.
- Communicate findings and recommendations effectively to internal stakeholders and defense customers.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree or equivalent with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 6 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions such as cross-linking spreadsheets, data analysis, and database management.
- Familiarity with component qualification processes and industry standards (e.g., MIL-PRF-38535, MIL-PRF-19500, IPC standards) is preferred but not required.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, including military standards and specifications.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and compliance.
- Familiarity with GIDEP alerts and BOM management.
- Knowledge of component reliability analysis and lifecycle management.
- Exposure to defense or aerospace systems is a plus.
- Ability to abtain and maintain a Secret Clearance
