Job Description:
The Manufacturing Engineer, operating with moderate supervision, applies standard engineering principles and possesses knowledge of related disciplines. Responsibilities include composite insulation manufacture, parts machining, assembly operations, metal forming, and material handling. This role supports both developmental and established production programs by preparing and maintaining manufacturing procedures, providing training and guidance, and assisting in process improvements.
The engineer collaborates with senior staff, Design Engineering, Quality Engineering, and Environmental Health & Safety representatives to prepare and maintain detailed process work instructions for facilities, processes, materials, and tooling. They develop and lead process hazards analyses, job safety analyses, and Facility/Equipment/Tooling Acceptance documentation as needed. They also maintain and develop ERP routings, MBOMs, and related tasks to support various programs.
The role involves solving specific manufacturing problems using engineering techniques such as test and production data evaluation, drawing/specification interpretation, and root cause/corrective analysis. The engineer prepares process flow diagrams, leads Process Failure Mode & Effects Analyses, implements statistical process control, and addresses product non-conformance.
Additionally, the engineer participates in proposal, cost estimate, and pre-contract activities, reviews and maintains process work instructions, and monitors manufacturing activities for compliance with Safety, Operations, and Quality Assurance program plans. They assist in preparing for and participating in process reviews, tooling and engineering design reviews, and drawing reviews to ensure manufacturability and inspection capability.
This position reports to Manufacturing Engineering management and interfaces with both internal and external customers.
Essential Functions:
- Regularly engages in continuous improvement of processes, systems, and/or products.
- Capable of data analysis and application of statistical tools.
- Possesses interpersonal skills to partner and communicate within diverse teams of professionals across organizations to create and execute manufacturing plans.
- Supports a culture of Safety, Quality, and Continuous Improvement.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Travel as required and up to approximately 15%.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant Engineering experience. Graduate Degree with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 6 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Proven success and results in driving improvements in cost, quality, and efficiency in manufacturing environments.
- Previous manufacturing experience in Aerospace/Defense industry.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Knowledge of MRP, ERP, and PLM systems.
