Job Description:  

The Energetic & Propellant Development classification is responsible for performing chemical research and analysis tasks to support propellant and compound synthesis and characterization, combustion and diagnostics, chemical synthesis and characterization, material qualification and compatibility, environmental compliance and remediation activities, and manufacturing processes.  Conceives, organizes, promotes and executes ideas and plans to improve energetics, propulsion and warhead systems in a timely and cost efficient manner. Develops research proposals to provide a technically and economically sound basis for developing and evaluating new or improved products, synthetic methods, processes and analytical and physical testing techniques. Recommends utilization of the results or changes in the scope of work or termination of a project.

Knowledge of:

  • Pertinent codes, rules, and regulations related to areas of assignments
  • Principles of Good Laboratory Practices and Protocols
  • Use of chemical laboratory process and test equipment, specialized analytical equipment, and various computer/software systems
  • Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) or other specialized testing protocols
  • Principles of chemistry, mathematics, statistics, mechanics, and physics, and the ability to relate these to laboratory assignments
  • Quality assurance protocols and general laboratory safety
  • Safety and health standards (OSHA and CALOSHA Laboratory Standard) related to laboratory testing procedures and practices
  • Computers and applicable software

Ability to:

  • Effectively communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing
  • Conduct laboratory testing in accordance with approved work instructions
  • Analyze and interpret results of laboratory testing, keep records, and prepare accurate reports of laboratory activities
  • Interpret and apply specific cases, provisions of laws, rules, or regulations encountered at work
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others
  • Independently develop and administer unique testing and research techniques and methods
  • Independently develop novel concepts and technical approaches for the purpose of improving/creating opportunities
  • Maintain a variety of test and research records

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must be in enrolled in Chemical Engineering discipline or similar major, and be returning to school upon the completion of their internship

 

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $22/hr-$40.50/hrThis is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
