Job Schedule: 2nd Shift 9/80: Employees work 9 out of every 14 days – totaling 80 hours worked – and have every other Friday off.
Job Description:
The position sets up and operates a variety of machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, precision grinders, and other equipment, to produce parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions.
Essential Functions:
- Interpret blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications to determine the sequence of operations, required number of cuts, and appropriate setup and arrangement.
- Use a variety of machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments; perform shop computations; and assemble precision parts.
- Fabricate piece parts per work instructions, drawings, and specifications using required machine tools.
- Inspect piece parts in accordance with work instructions and drawing requirements.
- Set up and operate machine tools.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Use, adjust, clean, and properly store tools, machinery, and equipment.
- Maintain records and reports related to equipment usage.
- Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance
Qualifications:
- Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 4 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience.
- Experience as a manual machinist on a conventional lathe and with CNC machining in an industrial/manufacturing environment.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Trade school certification or state-licensed Journeyman Machinist certification strongly preferred.
- Manual machining experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of setting up and operating milling machines and lathes.
- Working knowledge of engineering drawings, blueprints, production plans, and work instructions.
- Working knowledge of performing in-process inspection of finished parts using appropriate inspection and gauging equipment.
- Knowledge of industry-applicable laws, codes, ordinances, and regulations.
- Knowledge of machine tools and equipment, machine shop procedures and practices, and machining principles and properties.
- Proficiency in basic mathematical principles used to solve machining-related problems.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and interact with employees at all levels.
