Our site near Culpeper, VA, in beautiful, rural Orange County (1.5 hours from Washington, DC) is growing! This site is our center of excellence for Solid Rocket Motor Propulsion and Energetics development as well as high-complexity production programs.
The position will join an exceptional cross-functional team of engineers and technicians to fabricate components and assemble them into the most advanced solid rocket systems in the world. L3Harris is an industry leading supplier of missile components to the government for use in national defense.
L3Harris' Missile Propulsion Sector is seeking a skilled operational leader with a strong background in project and product engineering to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience working with energetics and manufacturing. They will be responsible for driving functional execution in Engineering and Manufacturing disciplines through industry leading tools, processes, and training. This role requires the ability to coordinate effectively within operational IPT including Design, Manufacturing, Tooling, Quality, Supply Chain, Scheduling/Material Planning, and Program Management. , The role will report to the Director of Orange Operations, Missile Propulsion and be based in Orange, VA.
Essential Functions:
- Provide oversight into Project and Product Engineering for manufacturing line development, equipment installation, and production qualification activities at the Orange, VA facility.
- Ensure engineering trials, equipment commissioning, and first article qualification work is performed with velocity and first-time quality to meet production ramp schedules.
- Proactively intervene on issues affecting capital equipment procurement, installation timelines, process validation, and first article acceptance, driving recovery plans and implementing corrective/preventative actions.
- Ensure that Project support resources (Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Operations, Facilities, etc....) are properly allocated to support engineering trials, equipment qualification activities, first article inspections, and production transition milestones aligned with line development schedules.
- Set the vision for manufacturing line maturity and production readiness, identify gaps in process capability and equipment performance, and lead the organization through qualification and ramp-up using the L3Harris Excellence Everywhere Everyday (e3) model.
- Collaborate with the engineering senior leadership team, program management office, manufacturing operations, supply chain, and quality teams to address strategic and tactical matters related to capital equipment acquisition, process development, and production qualification.
- Support new business development by demonstrating proven manufacturing processes, qualified production lines, and capacity scalability achieved through successful first article completions and production readiness reviews.
- Provide mentorship, coaching, and resources necessary to develop engineering talent skilled in equipment qualification, process validation, design for manufacturability, and production problem-solving.
- Support Overhead and Capital budget requirements and adherence to yearly forecast commitments
- Lead by example demonstrating commitment to L3Harris' values of Integrity, Excellence, and Respect while building an ethical culture that prioritizes rigorous qualification standards, data-driven decision making, and seamless transition from development to production.
- Up to 25% business travel to L3Harris and customer locations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- 4+ years direct people leadership experience.
- 2+ years project management experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- PMP Certification.
- Proven experience in building and developing high-performing teams.
- Ownership and leadership in driving schedule performance, meeting technical requirements, managing facilitation, capital expenditures, and ensuring on-time product delivery.
- Expertise in transferring and establishing manufacturing operations across geographic locations.
- Skilled in setting up manufacturing processes and launching new product lines.
- Strong background in supplier collaboration and supply chain management.
