Job Description:

 

The Missile Solutions Segment of L3Harris is seeking a Facilities Technician C (Plumbing) to join our team in Orange, VA. Our site near Culpeper, VA—located in beautiful, rural Orange County, approximately 1.5 hours from Washington, DC—is growing! This location serves as our center of excellence for solid rocket motor propulsion, energetics development, and high‑complexity production programs.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Install pipes, fittings, and fixtures for water, gas, and waste systems in defense facilities. Ensure all installations meet stringent safety and regulatory standards.
  • Perform regular maintenance and timely repairs on plumbing systems to ensure continuous facility operations. Address issues such as leaks, blockages, and malfunctioning fixtures promptly.
  • Conduct routine inspections and testing to identify potential issues and ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
  • Support system upgrades or modifications required for new technologies or changing operational needs, including installing new systems or enhancing existing ones.
  • Provide immediate response to plumbing emergencies, such as major leaks or pipe bursts, to prevent damage and ensure personnel and equipment safety.
  • Work closely with electricians, HVAC technicians, and other skilled trades to support integrated building system functionality—critical in complex defense facilities.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of all installations, repairs, and inspections to meet regulatory requirements and support future reference.
  • Adhere to strict safety protocols and security procedures to ensure all work supports the safety and security of the facility.
  • Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance

 

Qualifications:

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience, or 2 years of post‑secondary/associate degree education and a minimum of 2 years of plumbing‑related experience.

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

 

  • Strong understanding of plumbing systems, including water supply, drainage, and gas systems. Familiarity with pipe fitting, welding, and soldering.
  • Ability to use a variety of tools and equipment, including pipe cutters, wrenches, and power tools. Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve plumbing issues efficiently, including identifying root causes and implementing effective long‑term solutions.
  • Precision in installation and repair work to meet safety and regulatory standards and to prevent leaks, errors, and hazards.
  • Ability to move heavy materials, work in confined spaces, and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Strong verbal communication skills to collaborate with colleagues, supervisors, and stakeholders. Ability to document work clearly and accurately.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to maintain positive relationships with clients and internal partners.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and meet critical deadlines.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to safety practices and protocols, including those required for complex or hazardous systems.
  • Relevant local or state plumbing certifications or licenses. Defense‑industry‑related training or certifications are a plus.
  • Willingness to work in various environments, including during emergencies or outside regular hours.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with other trades and team members to complete projects successfully.
