Job Description:

 

The Missile Solutions Segment of L3Harris is seeking a Facilities Technician C (Controls) to join our team in Orange, VA. Our site near Culpeper, VA—located in beautiful, rural Orange County, approximately 1.5 hours from Washington, DC—is growing rapidly. This location serves as our center of excellence for solid rocket motor propulsion, energetics development, and high‑complexity production programs.

 

The Facilities Technician C (Controls) is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing building automation, control systems, and production equipment that support facility and manufacturing operations. This role helps ensure reliable performance of HVAC, lighting, energy management, production machinery, and other facility systems to maintain safe, efficient, and productive building and manufacturing environments.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  •  Install, program, calibrate, and maintain building automation systems (BAS), related controls, and production equipment control systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair control systems for HVAC, lighting, alarms, production machinery, and other facility and manufacturing equipment.
  • Monitor system and production equipment performance and identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency, throughput, and equipment reliability.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on sensors, actuators, controllers, valves, production equipment components, custom automation, robotics and associated devices.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, sequences of operation, equipment manuals, and technical documentation for both facility and production systems.
  • Support commissioning and startup of new or upgraded facility control systems and production equipment installations.
  • Respond to service calls, equipment faults, and system alarms in a timely manner to minimize downtime.
  • Coordinate with facilities maintenance, engineering, production teams, contractors, and vendors on repairs, upgrades, and equipment modifications.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, production equipment service history, system changes, and test results.
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety procedures, building codes, equipment manufacturer guidelines, and company standards.
  • Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 6 years of prior experience, or 2 years of post‑secondary/associate degree education and a minimum of 2 years of prior experience.

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

 

  • Experience with manufacturing automation and control systems
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley control systems
  • Experience with BAS platforms such as Johnson Controls, Siemens, Honeywell, Schneider Electric, or similar.
  • Experience with production equipment controls including PLCs, HMIs, or SCADA systems.
  • EPA, HVAC, electrical, controls-related, or industrial maintenance certifications.
  • Knowledge of networking concepts related to BAS and production system communications such as BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, EtherNet/IP and OPC UA.
  • Experience supporting regulated, manufacturing, or large commercial facility environments.
  • Experience with Fanuc robots is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, control diagrams, and production equipment schematics.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in both facility and production settings.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team across facilities and production departments.

 

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Virgina (outside of Greater D.C. area) is $23.80/hr - $43.99/hr. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
