Job Description
The Missle Segment of L3Harris is seeking a Facilities Technician B to join our Orange, VA location. Our site near Culpeper, VA—located in beautiful, rural Orange County, approximately 1.5 hours from Washington, DC—is growing! This location serves as our center of excellence for solid rocket motor propulsion, energetics development, and high‑complexity production programs.

This position reports directly to the Associate Manager of Facilities, under the general supervision of the Facilities Manager. With some knowledge and experience in landscaping and construction, the Facilities Technician B works under the direction of a Lead Skilled Craftsman to perform tasks required to maintain plant facilities. Responsibilities include general maintenance activities such as snow plowing, mowing, and operating hand and power tools. Work is performed with supervision and the ability to follow detailed instructions.

The work environment may require both indoor and outdoor activity in varied conditions (hot, cold, wet, humid). The role includes frequent walking, standing, sitting, climbing (ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps), balancing, bending, reaching, handling/fingering, stooping, kneeling, and crouching. The ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds is required.

Work may involve operating material‑handling equipment (e.g., forklift, crane, hoist, man lift) safely. Employees may be exposed to varying noise levels, fumes, airborne particles, and hazardous chemicals, requiring the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses or goggles, face shields, steel‑toed shoes, gloves, hard hats, shop coats, and hearing protection. The ability to don and doff PPE when entering or exiting specialized areas is required.

The position requires driving between locations within the facility. Some duties may occur in an office setting using standard office equipment, including a computer. The ability to distinguish colors may be necessary. The role may require working varying shifts and hours to support operational needs.

Essential Functions
50% – Landscaping and grounds maintenance
40% – Construction and excavating
10% – 6S general shop upkeep, cleaning, and organizing

Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent is desirable.
Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted.

Preferred Additional Skills
Experience operating excavating equipment such as skid steer loaders, walk‑behind trenchers, mini‑excavators, dump trucks, lawn mowers, and weed trimmers.
Strong computer skills, including MS Word and Excel (with formula use).
Strong safety and environmental awareness.
