Job Description:
Effectively assemble optical & mechanical units to deliver output that is aligned with company quality, delivery and cost goals in order to meet customer expectations and contractual requirements. The purpose of the Optical/Mechanical Assembler is to assemble high quality electrical and optical parts under the guidelines established by standard operating procedures and supervisory personnel.
The job requires constant concentration SPECIAL TRAINING NEEDED. This position requires a very detail-oriented individual that can maintain daily build rates that are based on the monthly schedule.
Essential Functions:
- Interpret blueprint instructions, operation sheets and computerized directions into specific building requirements and action
- Assemble optical and mechanical units to required tolerances and requirements
- Conduct hydraulic & pneumatic pressure tests and vacuum & dew point tests to determine integrity of pressure boundaries and establish acceptable dew points
- Properly set up and operate machining equipment including drill press, bench lathe, engraving machine and milling machine
- Conduct complex cleaning duties directly related to output quality.
- Comply with KEO rules and requirements including 5S responsibilities applicable to the cleaning, operation and maintenance of all equipment and areas including personal
working area and common area, ensuring the safety of oneself and others. - Comply with the company rules and requirements regarding the proper use of Personal
- Protection Equipment (PPE) and quality safety processes designed to protect all associates working within or near the assembly floor.
- Correctly operate various types of cranes (Jib, side-pull, overhead.) to carefully move material and products through assembly and test phases of manufacture.
- Perform general housekeeping activities.
- Identify and follow all production processes.
- Assemble, align, and collimate to tolerances below 2 seconds for optical and below .0002" for mechanical.
- Set up and operate engraving machines, drill press, milling machine and bench lathe to a tolerance of .002”.
- Responsible for own work including set up.
- Distinguish quality defects and bring to the attention of supervisor or group leader.
- Execute assembly actions and requirements based on minimal or no instructions.
- Create and validate instructions where none exist. Collaborate with manufacturing engineers to create.
- Work with engineering to devise special tooling or fixtures to facilitate work.
- Final clean the more complicated assemblies or instruments.
Job Qualification Requirements:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Completed vocational track in mechanical assembly or applicable track.
- 3-5 years experience in general mechanical assembly or auto mechanic assembly.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints, operation data sheets & computerized instructions.
- Checks the work of others as required.
- Perform assembly and bonding of all types of wired heated head windows.
- US citizen with the ability to obtain a government security clearance.
