Job Description: 

L3 Harris is seeking a Supervisor, Production Planning to join our Norfolk VA team to oversee the daily operations of our machine shop, Sheetmetal shop & Weld Shop. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing workflow, ensuring quality control, and tracking key performance metrics to optimize production efficiency.

Essential Functions: 

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of Fabrication shop personnel, including machinists, welders, technicians, and support staff.
  • Develop and implement production schedules to meet customer demands and production targets.
  • Monitor and track key performance metrics, including productivity, quality, and safety.
  • Ensure that all machinery and equipment are maintained and operating efficiently.
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide coaching and development opportunities for team members.
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality assurance, and other departments to resolve production issues and improve processes.
  • Maintain accurate records of production activities, including work orders, material usage, and labor hours.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance workflow and productivity.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Will track Production Output, Cycle Time, Quality Control, Labor Efficiency and Safety Incidents.

 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 6 years of prior related experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Fabrication shop environment.
  • Strong understanding of fabrication processes including machining and welding as well as tools, and equipment needed for this type of workflow.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities.

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience in Manufacturing, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • 2 years supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in manufacturing software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
