Job Description:
We are looking for a highly motivated, independent Technical Writer to join our team at L3Harris demonstrating willingness to learn technical nature of the industry. This role is responsible for writing, rewriting and/or editing technical documents, and publishing such as technical procedure manuals, software user manuals, operational specifications, configuration manuals, and related technical publications to communicate technical specifications and instructions clearly and effectively to a wide range of audiences. In addition, the Technical Writer will participate in peer reviews or editing documentation with other authors and will be assisting new products initiatives by tailoring product documentation for individual user requirements and recommending formats responsive to technical and customer requirements.
Essential Functions:
- Generate technical manuals and processes using technical inputs from engineering and operations departments as part of cross-functional team.
- Conducts interviews with various users and technical staff to develop product documentation exercising the ability to comprehend, assimilate, and document numerous software applications.
- Gathers cooperation from SMEs regarding processes, practices, and procedures.
- Expert English grammar skills with ability to produce documentation that conforms to the company style guide and is responsive to use cases and preference for writing in Simple English.
- Authors documentation in Adobe RoboHelp, has knowledge and use of GIT, Visual Studio Code, SharePoint, and Azure Devops tools.
- Excellent Project Management skills working under general supervision on multiple projects with ability to manage revolving and shifting deadlines and meeting schedules for multiple assigned programs teams with minimal coordination by Manager.
- Explains and interprets processes and procedures to others within and outside the job area with the ability to comprehend and clearly communicate complex technical data.
- Solves problems drawing from prior experiences and with analysis of the issues.
- Actively participate in and integrate on teams committed to continuous improvement, peer reviews others’ work, edits Word documents, and takes feedback on quality and accuracy of own writing.
- Exemplify excellent data organization and management skills with the ability to link content across topics.
Qualifications:
- Requires a Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 4 years of prior relevant experience, or a Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Strong working knowledge of military airborne and ground-based mission system operation and sustainment.
- Experience in single source documentation supporting multiple outputs, XML, HTML5, CSS, or web outputted documentation.
- Experience in Agile, iterative development, and/or SCRUM development.
- Experience documenting software releases, interactive technical manuals, Quick Reference Guides, Training Materials, and Help Sites.
