Job Description:  

L3Harris is seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Senior Weapons Specialist to oversee and ensure the safety of live fire demonstrations involving Class 1 munitions, up to 1.1 Hazard Division.. This position requires a seasoned professional with extensive knowledge and experience in weapons safety protocols, risk management, and live fire operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in military weapons and explosives, with a proven track record of leading live fire demonstrations and safety initiatives in high-stakes environments.

Essential Functions:

 

L3Harris is seeking a Senior Weapons Specialist to support Division specific requirements.  This position will:

  • Lead and oversee all safety protocols during live fire demonstrations involving Class 1 munitions, up to 1.1 Hazard Division..
  • Develop, implement, and enforce comprehensive safety procedures and guidelines in accordance with industry standards to ensure the safety of all personnel and equipment.
  • Conduct operational risk management assessments and identify potential hazards  prior to live fire events.
  • Generate a risk mitigation plan as required.
  • Coordinate with various teams, including range safety officers, military personnel, engineers, and logistics staff, to ensure seamless and safe execution of live fire demonstrations.
  • Train and mentor team members on weapons safety practices, emergency response procedures, and proper handling of explosives.
  • Develop and deliver training material for weapons handlers, ensuring they are well-versed in safety protocols and proper transport and employment of Class 1 munitions, up to 1.1 Hazard Division.
  • Maintain detailed records of safety inspections, incident reports, and compliance with safety regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations, standards, and best practices, including military and civilian guidelines.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all safety-related matters during live fire demonstrations.
  • Investigate and report any safety incidents, providing recommendations for preventing future occurrences.
  • Stay current with advancements in weapons technology, safety practices, and regulatory changes.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency and reduce costs
  • Ability to obtain and maintain any additional clearances as required.
  • Up to 40% travel may be required.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • US Citizenship with the ability to obtain a Department of Defense Security Clearance.
  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related 
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in weapons safety, with a focus on large weapons and explosives, preferably in a military setting.
  • Extensive knowledge of military weapons systems, explosives handling, and live fire demonstration protocols.
  • Proven experience in leading safety initiatives and managing safety teams in high-risk environments.
  • Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard analysis techniques.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to train and mentor team members effectively.
  • Proven experience in developing and delivering training programs for weapons handlers.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to work under pressure and make critical decisions in high-stress situations.
  • Certifications in safety management, explosives handling, or related areas are highly desirable.

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including outdoor live fire ranges.
  • Must be able to lift and carry heavy equipment as required.
  • Ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations
