Job Description:

 

Participate and consistently contribute to planning, design, implementation, verification, deployment, and support activities for custom software components and applications.  May perform task management activities for other software engineers.

 

The Software Engineer, Senior Specialist Level is a senior professional with strong job area knowledge and broad knowledge of project management, managing complex projects and processes with general oversight to achieve operational targets and goals with direct impact on team and departmental results.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Interact directly with engineering team and program management staff to analyze and understand requirements;
  • Translate requirements into appropriate technical designs;
  • Effectively present technical designs to software engineering, program management, and other team members;
  • Implement requirements into software components and applications according to technical design;
  • Unit and component test software components and applications to ensure quality of deliverables;
  • Provide input and effort for the technical verification of all technical, functional and corporate requirements prior to delivery of software components and applications;
  • Investigate and address requirement violations in functional testing and production software as needed;
  • Track and report status of tasks, deliverables, and issues to software engineering team;
  • Adhere to corporate processes and standards for all activities and deliverables during all phases of involvement in the software development life cycle;
  • Effectively manage multiple task assignments;
  • Mentor less experienced team members as appropriate;
  • Perform other appropriate duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience;
  • Additionally, minimum of 6 years of progressively advanced object oriented commercial or government software development experience;
  • Experience with C# and Visual Studio required (Java experience a potential substitute);
  • Experience with Object Oriented development with focus on SOLID principals
  • Practical knowledge of relevant technologies, software development methodologies, and programming languages;
  • Practical knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of object-oriented design/development;
  • Theoretical knowledge and understanding of regulatory standards impact on software development;
  • Practical knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of software unit, component, and integration testing;
  • Practical knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of source code management and defect tracking;
  • Ability to obtain a Secret security clearance, which requires US citizenship.

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience with WPF/XAML;
  • An understanding of SOLID principals;
  • Ability to utilize design patterns as appropriate;
  • Understanding of UML (Unified Modeling Language;
  • Azure DevOps source control (GIT);
  • YAML pipeline/release development is a plus.
  • Experience with multithreaded application development.
