Job Description:

The Commodity Manager is responsible for overseeing several key categories, maintaining strategic partnerships to establish supplier relationships, including negotiating pricing and supply agreements, and supporting new product introduction and supplier selection. These positions serve as a liaison between Manufacturing, Program Management, Engineering and other departments, and vendors supplying the service which includes developing and executing the global sourcing strategies for assigned categories throughout the enterprise and leading collaborative enterprise-wide, cross-functional category teams to analyze spend, develop and implement actionable spend management strategies and proactively manage the supply base for assigned category. These positions may act as a lead negotiator and complete contracts with global strategic and preferred suppliers to maximize benefits across the enterprise and develop comprehensive risk management strategies. They may guide the selection, development and management of Strategic Suppliers to meet category cost and performance goals, with emphasis placed on ability to identify cost targets for relevant technology and product roadmaps; understand and monitor current category market conditions, developing technologies, supply chain capacity, product knowledge, customer requirements, and supply and demand challenges. May be asked to design schedules based on the TAKT time or customer demands; may act as a delegate buyer; and  prepare and analyze financial and statistical data, tables and charts for meeting AOP and strategic metric plans which includes researching and presenting global category futures market analyses and forecasts, supply chain risks, and supplier development. 

Essential Functions:

  • In-depth knowledge of propellant and commercial chemical manufacturing processes and usage
  • Understanding of applications for chemicals in the defense industry, specific knowledge of rocket motor or other energetic applications is preferred
  • Pertinent local, state and federal laws and regulations relating to assigned program responsibility and/or material planning
  • Ability to create and negotiate strategic agreements, price and schedule agreements with key suppliers
  • Ability to develop integrated schedules and projects for supplier development and material qualification events
  • Material and production control in a manufacturing environment
  • General guidelines such as government safety rules and regulations for handling and transportation of chemicals and energetic products
  • Ability to travel 25%-50% of the time
  • Ability to obtain security clearance, if needed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior category management experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior category management experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior category management experience.  

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Minimum of 5 years experience associated with chemical/energetic material applications
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in DoD/Aerospace industry
  • Effectively interface with all levels of personnel; Operate effectively in a team environment 
  • Plan, organize and prioritize work assignments to meet designated schedules
  • Analyze material consumption and project future trends
  • Detect problem areas, define causes and create effective solution, exercising sound judgment in evaluating situations, planning actions, making decisions and setting priorities
  • Read, interpret and analyze drawings, blueprints and specifications 

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Colorado State, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Vermont and New York State is $86,000- $159,500. For California, Seattle, Washington D.C., Maryland Greater Washington D.C. area, the city of Denver, Washington State and New York City, the salary range for this role is $98,500- $182,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
