Essential Functions: 

The candidate will work in the Mechanical Systems group for the military CF-18 and CT114 Programs. The candidate will play a key role in the mechanical systems and structures modification design, test and certification. The candidate will lead some of the activities necessary to assure continuing airworthiness of CF-18 fleet mechanical systems as delegated by Canadian Department of National Defense (DND).

  • Address maintenance snags and analyze them in relation to established design data, in-service experience and the resultant deterioration in the level of system safety;
  • Provide technical support and engineering disposition in order to restore the structural integrity and the systems performance of the damaged structures/systems. The solutions must be in accordance with the customer's requirements, military (MIL-STD or other), civil (FAR, TC), and / or corporate standards in place;
  • Develop/Review mechanical system modifications and installation work instructions, procedures and recommendations;
  • Identify discrepancies and/or problems with drawings before releasing to production and implements corrective action to ensure the timely release;
  • Validation of subsystem/equipment performance to specification via test;
  • Support/participate in integration tests on the system; develop test scripts;
  • Coordinate cross functional requirements communication and optimization;
  • Assist / Obtain / Grant regulatory approval for modifications/repairs performed on aircraft mechanical systems/components;
  • Provide detailed evaluation of the reliability impact of proposed design changes per ARP4761 and / or MIL-STD-882E;
  • Assess contributing factors of system safety and airworthiness degradations by launching a root cause analysis. Identify corrective actions to restore system Reliability;
  • Facilitate continuous improvement by recommending and implementing plans and approaches to reliability tasks to maximize compliance to requirements while yielding timely and accurate results;
  • Developing action plans to react quickly to unanticipated events as well as anticipate potential problems before they occur;
  • Monitor and communicate project status, business issues and significant developments;
  • Prepare and/or Review technical reports;
  • Actively work to improve daily processes, and ensures all work meets quality requirements;
  • Act as a mentor for junior level Engineers.

 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, aeronautics or equivalent;
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Aviation Mechanical Systems Engineering or equivalent;
  • Superior knowledge of one or more of the following aircraft systems: Fuel, Hydraulic, Ventilation, Equipment Cooling, Fire/Smoke detection, Oxygen, Bleed Air;
  • Strong technical writing skills including the ability to write reports in English;
  • Experience with the use of software such as: MS Office, Relex/Windchill is an asset, Cameo No Magic is an asset;
  • CAD experience (preferably with CATIA) a plus;
  • Knowledge of ISO/IEC 15288:2008 is a major asset;
  • Knowledge of MBSE SysML is a major asset;
  • Strong Communication skills.

 

 

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be eligible for registration with the Controlled Goods Program;
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a government of Canada Reliability status and Secret Level 2/NATO Secret security clearance;
  • Must be eligible to meet the requirements for U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
