Job Description: 

Under the general direction of the Test Engineering group Lead, design and test digital electronics from concepts to production levels.  The work pertains primarily to custom electronic circuits and systems for underwater applications.

Experienced professional with proficient knowledge of job area and practice knowledge of project management. May manage projects or processes with general supervision Communications with contacts inside and outside of own department to explain and interpret operational processes, practices, and procedures. Recommends enhancements with systems and processes. Works to achieve operational targets for specific programs and projects with moderate impact on departmental results.

Essential Functions:

·       Design and develop electrical/electronic design concepts and implement concepts into finished working designs. Work from specification requirements, design concepts, and inputs from customer and other engineers involving multidisciplinary activities.

·       Perform PCB design and review of mixed signal technology circuits consisting of A/D, D/A, Processors, and Programmable Logic (FPGA, CPLD) circuits.

  •    Generate documentation including technical status and forecast technical needs

·       Interface with customers on program updates and other support needs

·       Project and team leadership experience

·       Perform systems engineering tasks requiring both manual and automated test processes

·       Develop test plans, test procedures, requirements traceability, test reports, test flow, and test case design and implementation

·       Execute system, sub-system, CCA and component level functional testing and document results 

·       Use critical thinking to perform hardware and firmware troubleshooting down to component level in electronic laboratory and production environment

·       Setup, configure, and document hardware/software systems under test, including loading software onto multiple devices to perform verification and validation

·       Use software tools and develop scripts to implement into test processes

·       Perform root cause analysis and create/implement out corrective actions

·       Support Operations manufacturing in failure trend analysis and ensure failure trends are quickly and effectively identified and resolved

·       May provide technical consultation to internal organizations and/or customers

·       Manage tasking using technique of Earned Value Management System (EVMS) and perform in Control Account Manager (CAM) role

·       Contribute to continuous improvement efforts

·       Capable of traveling domestically and internationally up to 10%

·       Software used: Cadence OrCAD/Allegro, Altium Designer, Mentor Graphics Xpedition, Microsoft Project, Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint, Outlook E-mail

·       Test Hardware: DC Power Supplies, Digital Multi-Meters, Oscilloscope, Signal Generator, RF Signal Generator, Spectrum Analyzer, Fiber Optic Scope Meter

·       Ability to productively contribute work, ideas, and collaborate as part of a team, and/or lead a team.

·       Presentation and communication skills (Verbal/written/visual)

·       Problem solving skills and the ability to meet critical deadlines

·       The use of safety equipment (PPE) is required in designated areas

·       Must be able to sit or stand for up to nine hours 

Qualifications: 

  •         Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
  •      Ability to obtain US Secret Clearance which requires US Citizenship

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

·       Technical Software Used: LabVIEW, JIRA, Bitbucket/Git, NI TestStand, Python

·       Understanding of systems engineering concepts

·       Knowledge of electronic and acoustic testing including Signal to Noise Ratio, electronics noise floors, bit error rate testing, digital communication and transmission line testing

·       Knowledge and experience troubleshooting FPGA based PWAs

·       Knowledge of Environmental Qualification test such as Thermal, Hydrostatic Pressure, Self-Compatibility EMI test, Vibration tests

·       Desired skills include requirements analysis and verification, software scripting and usage of automated testing frameworks and applications

·       Concentrated mental/visual demand

 

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Maryland $104,500- $ 193,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
