Job Description:
Manage and direct the day-to-day activities of the Millersville Mechanical Engineering Group. Provide technical direction and oversight to individuals in the Group and to program teams. Estimate labor, capacity and other resources as required to operate and adherence to budget and schedule commitments.
This person will lead the company’s mechanical engineering team with responsibilities for the mechanical design of submarine and surface ship based towed array sonars and associated support equipment. This person will provide input and recommendations for Internal Research And Development (IRAD) projects and support business growth by researching and responding to customer solicitations.
Specific Duties:
- Manage and direct the day-to-day activities of the Mechanical Engineering Group and make individual work assignments.
- Work with other engineering functional managers and program managers to ensure all current and future programs are adequately staffed.
- Monitor individual performance and prepare formal Performance Appraisal Reports.
- Be capable of executing all the duties of a lead Mechanical Engineer.
- Provide detailed design models and drawings towed array mechanical components using Inventor and Solidworks.
- Familiarity with drafting IAW ASME Y14.100 and all related standards.
- Knowledgeable about US Navy program lifecycle, taking products from concept to production.
- Work closely with Operations to transition new designs to production / manufacturing using established company processes.
- Work closely with Operations and Quality to complete RCCA (Root Cause Corrective Actions) for issues that arise in production.
- Assist Quality with verifying compliance of incoming purchased parts with required specs.
- Experience in designing electromechanical pressure vessels for undersea applications.
- Experience in designing towed systems for undersea applications.
- Assist purchasing to address questions from vendors regarding purchased mechanical components.
- Experience in managing PDM (Product Data Management) systems.
- Manage the engineering input to outside machine shops that will be fabricating components.
- Interface with customers on behalf of L3Harris Engineering.
Basic Qualifications:
- Requires management and leadership knowledge in job area. Typically has comprehensive knowledge and skills within a specific technical or professional discipline and may have broad understanding of other areas within the job function. Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years prior related experience. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
- Extensive Autodesk Inventor/Vault and/or Solidworks/Solidworks PDM Experience. FEA for structural analysis. Design of undersea systems. Knowledge of pressure vessel design and analysis, material selection for corrosive marine environments, high pressure hermetic seals.
- Must have an active DoD security Clearance
