About the role

L3Harris in Melbourne is the base for our Enterprise Network Modernisation Program (ENMP) for Airservices Australia. In partnership with Airservices, L3Harris will lead a consortium to plan and design an integrated, enterprise system to support all telecommunications, radio communications, ADS-B surveillance and network services for the National Airways System, including support for civil aviation, and aviation rescue and firefighting services.

 

As an Information Security Systems Engineer at L3Harris Technologies, you will design, develop, and validate advanced network and system security architectures. Beyond daily operations, you will provide strategic leadership to ensure our mission-critical defense and commercial systems remain protected against evolving cyber threats. In this role, you will drive the assessment of emerging technologies, establish enterprise security standards, and act as the subject matter expert safeguarding our global cyber infrastructure.

 

What the role will involve

The responsibilities of your role will include the following:

  • Design and implement secure network and application architectures for mission-critical systems.
  • Assess security risks and provide expert guidance to engineering and SOC teams.
  • Develop and enforce security policies, standards, and best practices.
  • Evaluate and integrate new security technologies and tools.
  • Oversee firewalls, IDS/IPS, antivirus, and SIEM systems to optimize protection.
  • Lead incident response and resolution for complex security issues.
  • Collaborate across teams to ensure systems are “secure by design” and meet compliance requirements.

 

What you’ll bring

To succeed in this role, you’ll need the following experience and skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Electronics & Communication, or a related engineering field.
  • 6+ years of experience in Security Architecture or Security Engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of security frameworks and hands-on experience with technologies such as IPSEC/SSL, Palo Alto Firewalls, SIEM, EDR, AAA, DNS Security, F5 Load Balancers, and IDS/IPS.
  • Familiarity with SD-WAN concepts; experience with Cisco or Fortinet appliances is a plus.
  • Proficiency in scripting, preferably with Python.
  • Proven ability to develop security policies and perform architectural risk assessments.
  • Industry certifications such as CISSP or CCIE Security are highly regarded.
