Job Description:

L3Harris Technologies, Inc. is actively seeking a State Income Tax Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will be a key member of the Tax department, assisting in all aspects of the state income tax function, including compliance, financial reporting (ASC 740), controversy support, and special projects. The ideal candidate is a team player who effectively collaborates with others, has strong written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, analytical thinking, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Support the quarterly and annual income tax provision process for the state and local tax function, ensuring compliance with ASC 740. This entails assisting with the preparation of various key deliverables and processes, including:  
  • Calculating blended current and deferred state tax rates using up-to-date apportionment data and effective statutory tax rates.
  • Prepare state permanent and temporary modifications
  • Tracking and forecasting state attribute generation, utilization, and realizability
  • Reconciling and validating state income tax payable/receivable accounts as well as state deferred tax asset/liability accounts.
  • Supporting compliance with all pertinent SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley) requirements.
  • Collaborate with our 3rd party tax advisors to meet statutory filing requirements and complete tax planning projects.
  • Assist in the preparation of state estimated tax payments and extension filings, ensuring all appropriate payments are timely made and tracked accurately.
  • Collaborate on research projects and state tax modeling exercises to project the impact of federal and state law changes.
  • Support state tax controversy matters, including examinations, audit defense planning, notice responses, and VDA projects.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Exposure to state income and franchise tax concepts.
  • Understanding of basic federal income tax and ASC 740 principles.
  • Experience communicating directly with tax authorities.
  • Strong proficiency with MS Excel expected.
  • Detail oriented, analytical, and problem solving. 
  • Able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships cross-functionally within the organization.
  • Experience with a Big 4 accounting firm and/or large tax department of a multinational company.
  • CPA, JD, or MST
  • Experience in any of Corptax, Alteryx, Hyperion Tax Provision, and Generative AI tools
