Job Description:
L3Harris is seeking an experienced Senior Specialist, Network Planning Engineer to join our team supporting the FAA Telecommunications Infrastructure (FTI) program. The FTI program provides critical communication services to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), enabling safe and efficient air traffic control across the national airspace.
This role will be responsible for planning, designing, and optimizing robust and secure network solutions in support of evolving FAA requirements. The ideal candidate has extensive network engineering experience within large-scale, mission-critical environments and has a proven track record working with both legacy and modern telecommunications technologies.
Essential Functions:
- Architect, design, and implement wireless network solutions (5G, LTE, Satcom), ensuring reliability, scalability, and security for FAA communications for non-terrestrial solution to disadvantaged sites.
- Analyze system requirements, develop network plans, and assess optimization opportunities for the FTI program.
- Lead network upgrades, migrations, and integration of new technologies in compliance with FAA and L3Harris standards.
- Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies related to network infrastructure.
- Perform root cause analysis and develop solutions for complex network issues.
- Collaborate closely with program management, FAA stakeholders, vendors, and cross-functional engineering teams.
- Maintain documentation, network diagrams, and compliance records.
- Ability to obtain a FAA Security Clearance
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- 6+ years of relevant network engineering and planning experience (or 4+ years with a Master’s).
- In-depth knowledge of network planning, routing protocols (EIGRP, OSPF, BGP), TCP/IP, and network security best practices.
- Experience with MPLS, VPNs, voice/data convergence, and legacy telecom technologies (TDM, Frame Relay).
- Familiarity with FAA or federal telecommunications infrastructure preferred.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
- Network certifications (e.g., CCNP, CCIE, JNCIP) highly desirable.
- Experience working in FAA or federal aviation environments.
- Understanding of program management and network integration methodologies (e.g., ITIL, Agile).
- Previous FTI or NAS (National Airspace System) support experience.
