Job Description:
We are looking for a labor and employment law specialist to join our centralized Global Labor & Employment practice group, reporting to the Senior Director, Managing Counsel - Labor, Employment, Benefits, and Immigration.
Essential Functions:
- Investigate, negotiate and resolve pre-litigation claims and administrative charges to drive results consistent with the company’s labor and employment claims strategy and make recommendations to Human Resources and senior management on corrective action.
- Whenever outside counsel is approved for US court litigation and international claims, manage and drive outside counsel in alignment with company employment litigation strategy.
- Actively monitor employment law changes, to ensure policies and practices are compliant
- Provide practical and business-oriented legal advice and counseling on an all aspects of labor and employment law, including: hiring, performance management, employee relations, terminations, leaves of absence and accommodations, and wage and hour.
- Develop, draft and implement a variety of workplace policies, employee training and employment-related templates and agreements in collaboration with Human Resources and other functions as appropriate
- Advise the Ethics and Compliance team and privilege investigations where appropriate in all matters involving alleged discrimination, harassment and retaliation or violation of labor and employment laws.
Qualifications:
- JD from an accredited law school and a minimum of 7 years’ practicing law, focused primarily on employment law, including the last 5 years.
- Member in good standing of a state bar.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Licensed to practice in California
- Significant experience personally handling claims and administrative complaints without the use of outside counsel.
- Strong client-relations and interpersonal skills, as well as excellent judgment and superior written and oral communication and analytical skills.
- Detail-oriented, and an ability to work effectively and collaboratively.
- Ability to juggle and prioritize multiple time-sensitive tasks effectively and independently.
- California wage and hour experience a plus.
- Top-tier law firm and/or in-house experience in a publicly traded company.
- Experience working on international labor and employment law matters.
