Job Description:  

L3Harris is searching for an experienced Director of Engineering Management for the Information Security and Systems Administration department. This role is part of the L3Harris Mission Networks (MN) Sector that supports Managed Network Services for the federal government and other customers. This role is a combination of people and technical leadership managing a department of 150 Information Security Systems Engineers (ISSE), IT Security Analysts, System Administrators, and IT Architects.

 

The Director of Engineering Management is responsible for providing people leadership, strategic technical leadership, establishing and directing all aspects of the engineering disciplines policies, objectives, and initiatives based on long-term product and profitability goals. They are responsible for supplying and maintaining adequate resources for all engineering functions in the pursuit of the site’s strategic goals and operational plans.

 

  • This position is ONSITE and is located at L3Harris offices located in Melbourne, Florida.
  • This position requires the ABILITY to obtain FAA Public Trust Suitability.

Essential Functions: 

  • Build and nurture a diverse and inclusive engineering organization dedicated to the ongoing advancement of the Information Security/Systems Administration Engineering and associated technical roadmaps.
  • Be a champion to drive digital engineering culture and best practices to advance execution efficiency within the teams.
  • Ensure timely delivery of engineering work products, from product definition through production transition, across all markets to meet goals and objectives.
  • Manage the Engineering department budgets for your teams.
  • Work with the technical leaders to ensure appropriate technical tools are available for execution.
  • Work with the team leaders to conduct skills assessment and proactively address skills gaps.
  • Drive a culture of mentorship to develop strong technical leaders and subject matter experts.
  • Ensure the delivery of technical training for the upskilling of department team members.
  • Work with sector leadership to co-develop organization’s growth and technical product strategy.
  • Support a culture of continuous improvement through usage of engineering metrics.
  • Drive operational best practices and share information through Communities of Practices.
  • Foster a high-level of employee motivation, engagement, performance, and commitment.
  • Participate in proposal reviews, be responsible for estimations for your department and oversee the engineering technical reviews.
  • Responsible for staffing & salary plans, drive high performing team culture through proper performance management, rewards & recognition and feedback.
  • Represents organization with major customers and stakeholders.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 15 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 19 years of prior related experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in technical leadership.
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in people leadership.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience Information/Cyber Security.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Previous experience with FAA and/or DoD systems/programs.
  • Understanding of NIST SP800-53 or NIST SP800-171 control framework and FISMA policies.
  • Relevant Security certifications (ex. CISSP).
  • Experience in network security and management technologies, including but not limited to firewalls, routers, switches, IDS, WAF, and various VPN technologies.
  • Knowledge of enterprise systems administration activities and Network Monitoring Systems.
