Job Description:
The Specialist, Production Planning plans, prepares, issues, and controls production schedules and coordinates material requirements to ensure a controlled flow of approved materials in support of project demand. This role advises the team on work-in-progress status, material availability, and potential production issues to help ensure equipment, materials, and services are available as needed.
The role confirms material supply and demand requirements and prepares work orders for components based on project needs. This position coordinates cross-functionally with Quality, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Engineering, Inventory Control, Logistics, and Program teams to support project schedules and achieve business objectives.
This role works as part of an Integrated Product Team (IPT), as needed, to support schedule changes and shifting production priorities. Responsibilities include providing part planning and inventory control parameters for make items, expediting the movement of materials, parts, and assemblies within and between departments, identifying shortages, and initiating corrective actions. The Specialist also contributes to continuous improvement efforts related to systems, tools, and procedures.
Essential Functions:
- Plan, prepare, issue, and control production schedules to support program and project requirements.
- Coordinate material requirements to ensure timely availability of approved materials in support of production demand.
- Monitor and communicate work-in-progress status, material availability, and potential production issues to management and cross-functional teams.
- Learn and utilize warehouse management and ERP systems, including Costpoint, to process physical and electronic transactions and support overall inventory accuracy.
- Maintain accurate ERP inputs and system transactions to ensure inventory integrity.
- Manage inventory levels for direct and indirect materials.
- Coordinate production materials to support the master production schedule, shop workload, and inventory requirements.
- Work as part of an Integrated Project Team (IPT) to support schedule changes and shifting production priorities.
- Provide part planning and inventory control parameters for make items within the control system.
- Schedule and expedite the movement of parts, materials, and assemblies through move orders, stock transfers, and shipping requests.
- Identify material shortages, assess associated risks, and initiate actions to resolve deficiencies.
- Partner with internal and external stakeholders, including Program Management, Quality, Manufacturing, Procurement, Engineering, and Logistics, to support production and delivery objectives.
- Manage multiple assignments or projects of varying complexity and drive them to completion.
- Contribute suggestions and support continuous improvement of production planning systems and procedures.
- Work under minimal direction within established processes and procedures.
- Occasional overtime may be required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
- Practical and applied knowledge of production planning, material coordination, inventory control, and related business processes.
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction within standard policies and procedures.

- Ability to identify risks and opportunities related to material availability and production execution.
- Working knowledge of project coordination or project management principles.
