L3Harris Space & Sensors Division, headquartered in Mason, Ohio, designs, develops, and manufactures complex systems (electronic, avionics, transceivers, transmitters, electro-optical, and electro-mechanical) for the defense, aerospace, and commercial markets. L3Harris is a recognized leader in Electro-Optical technologies that enable systems to support surveillance, reconnaissance, threat detection, and self-protection missions.
We are seeking a motivated individual to join our team as Specialist, Mechanical Designer. This position supports a variety of mission-critical programs with specific focus on EO/IR Sensor packaging design, UHV Dewars, and Cryocoolers. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in mechanical design and/or engineering drafting, with a strong proficiency in Solidworks and AutoCAD sofware. The drafter will be responsible for creating detailed 3D models, and 2D design drawings for hardware components, manufacturing assemblies, and final top-level assemblies that meet engineering specifications and industry standards.
Essential Functions:
- Create precise 3D models and 2D drawings of IR Sensor components and assemblies
- Collaborate with engineers to understand design requirements and implement design changes
- Update and maintain the accuracy of drawings and documentation in accordance with changes in design or manufacturing
- Ensure that all drawings and models comply with industry standards, company standards, and customer specifications
- Prepare and maintain Bill of Materials (BOM) and documentation packages for production and assembly
- Participate in design review meetings, Engineering Review Boards (ERB), and Change Control Boards (CCB), and provide technical support to the engineering team
- Manage and organize CAD files and drawing databases
- Able to create, manage, and generate Engineering Change Notices, and new part numbers within Teamcenter PLM system or equivalent.
- Work with Manufacturing and Quality control teams to troubleshoot issues during the production process
- Run full stack-up analysis of GD&T from hardware through full assemblies.
- Continuously improve drafting processes and procedures to increase efficiency and quality.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience.
- Graduate Degree and minimum 2 years of prior experience.
- In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience
- Experience with Solidworks software, or equivalent, is required
- Clearance: Must be able to obtain a DoW Security Clearance
- Experience with GD&T and ASME drawing standards is required
Preferred Additional Skills:
- EO / IR experience is a plus
- Experience with Cryocoolers is a plus
- Experience with UHV assemblies is a plus
- Familiarity with EO/IR Sensor assembly standards is a plus
- Strong understanding of Teamcenter or equivalent PLM systems
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and material properties
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Good communication and teamwork abilities
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively
