Job Description:
We are currently seeking an Space Avionics Program Chief Engineer for our Space Avionics department with experience in electrical design, requirement development, circuit modeling, earned value management, and Avionics testing and integration to join our Program Chief Engineer Group. You will have the opportunity to work various programs solving our customer’s most difficult technical challenges on cutting edge and world-class Space Avionics systems. Sample products include Mars Rover/Landers/Orbiters, Space Launch System vehicles, Moon Missions, and Imaging Satellite Communications equipment.
As a Space Avionics Program Chief Engineer, you will be the technical lead of the program team, perform technical planning, system integration, validation and verification, cost and risk and supportability and effectiveness analyses for launch vehicle and space avionics. In addition, you will be accountable for cost and schedule performance of engineering scope on the program. Analyses are performed at all levels to include concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total avionics solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
Essential Functions:
- Lead the technical development of system, interface and sub-system design through various trade studies, analyses and internal design reviews.
- Accountable for the program technical, cost and schedule performance for engineering scope.
- Maintains the interface between Customers, Program Management and Engineering on the program.
- Technical authority for the program requirements, architectures, designs, integration & tests related to the program.
- Provide technical direction throughout the program’s lifecycle.
- Responsible for the program technical baseline, and technical integrity of all deliverables.
- Translate stakeholder needs, desires and concepts into high level CONOPS, clearly defined system requirements and system architecture.
- Baseline system level requirements, allocate lower level requirements to various engineering disciplines and lead the implementation of engineering requirements within given cost, schedule and technical constraints.
- Ensure the delivery of solutions are contractually compliant to requirements and customer needs.
- Ensure the collection, management, analysis and reporting of engineering metrics and TPMs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 16 years of prior related experience.
- 10 years or more of demonstrated experience with designing, developing, testing, and delivering Space Avionics circuits, and electronic units.
- 10 years or more comprehensive experience with and understanding of electronic components and methodology, and circuits.
- 5 years or more of demostrated experience leading a development team
- Ability to obtain an DoD Security Clearance from the U.S. Government which requires U.S. Citizenship
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Computer, Physics, or related Engineering discipline
- Has technical depth in avionics and circuits
- Has specific knowledge of Systems Engineering processes
- Has specific knowledge of the models and tools associated with avionics development
- Understands the design process and lifecycle of avionics, including qualification and ceritification
- Is qualified to disposition non-conformances for the Space portfolio
- Demonstrates the ability to perform causal analysis to identify physical, process, and systemic causes and corrective/preventive actions
- Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written
- Knowledge of military and/or NASA component specifications, design processes, and hardware test/verification procedures.
- Willingness to be available during critical processes and decisions involving the assigned product to ensure critical workflow continues
- Demonstrates good visibility and relationships with interfacing product chief engineers, other functional organizations, customers and subcontractors
