Job Description:
As a Senior Specialist, Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) Engineer, you will lead and manage advanced EMI/EMC analysis, testing, and design integration for cutting-edge aerospace and defense technologies. You will drive strategic initiatives, mentor engineers, assign daily tasks, and provide technical leadership to ensure compliance with rigorous industry standards such as MIL-STD-461 and DO-160. Your expertise will be crucial in shaping the future of our products, ensuring they meet and exceed performance expectations in demanding environments.
The ideal candidate will serve as the technical authority for EMI/EMC engineering efforts, guiding cross-functional teams and providing expertise on compliance, analysis, and design integration. They will develop and execute advanced EMI/EMC control plans, strategies, and test procedures to mitigate risks and optimize system performance.
Essential Functions:
- Extensive knowledge of Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) theory, signal integrity, and power quality
- Expert skills in using Spectrum Analyzers, EMI receivers, signal generators, RF power meters, RF amplifiers, and antennas, etc
- Conduct root cause analysis and troubleshooting of EMI/EMC issues, recommending and implementing innovative solutions
- Evaluate and select materials, components, and shielding techniques to enhance EMI/EMC performance
- Author and review technical reports, test documentation, and compliance certifications for internal and external stakeholders
- Engage with regulatory bodies, customers, and industry groups to stay ahead of evolving standards and best practices in EMI/EMC engineering
- Support audits, reviews, and compliance activities to ensure adherence to contractual and regulatory obligations
- Communicate EMI/EMC requirements and solutions to stakeholders and customers
- Participate in customer meetings and presentations to showcase EMI/EMC capabilities and solutions
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred) from an ABET-accredited university program.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant hands-on experience in EMI/EMC engineering (preferred).
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract
- Existing DoD Secret clearance or the ability to obtain a clearance
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to frequently move test equipment weighing up to 32 pounds to test benches or to carts for transport to other areas of the facility. Occasionally lift equipment greater than 25 pounds with assistance.
- Ability to occasionally position self by climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
- Constantly operate a computer and read testing procedures off a monitor.
- Ability to stand or sit for long periods as testing requires.
- Capability to move about inside lab, office, and manufacturing environments.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Working experience in EMI/EMC analysis, test, and troubleshooting, particularly in aerospace or defense applications
- Working experience in MIL-STD-461, DO-160, and other industry standards for electromagnetic compatibility
- Strong leadership abilities, with a track record of mentoring engineers and driving complex technical projects
- Hands-on experience with EMI/EMC test equipment, simulations, and mitigation techniques
- Deep understanding of electromagnetic physics, materials science, and shielding technologies
- Ability to support weekends, extended, alternate or second shift operations with little advance notice.
