Job Description:

The Sr. Manager, Production Planning is responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight to the Materials Planning and Scheduling teams within the broader scheduling and material planning organization, ensuring the seamless execution of end-to-end material planning processes for a group of manufacturing facilities. The primary goal of the Materials Planning team is to optimize the availability of raw materials and finished goods across all contract and non-contract materials at a group of sites within a division or sector and ensure effective and efficient use of the MRP system. The Production Planning Manager oversees the Demand Planning, Production  Control, Inventory,  and other cross-functional teams to enhance operational efficiency, maintain optimal inventory levels, minimize costs, and ensure timely delivery of products to customers.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Provide strategic direction for material planning and scheduling processes, ensuring alignment with overall Operation/Manufacturing goals.
  • Manage and lead the Materials Planning and Scheduling team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture by providing guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.
  • Actively participate in the site’s SIOP process, contributing expertise in material supply-related activities.
  • Collaborate with Procurement leadership to ensure seamless communication and coordination between teams to resolve due date and shortage issues.
  • Engage with cross-functional teams to define project timelines, supply chain objectives, and execution strategies.
  • Oversee the implementation of planning strategies and effective management of purchasing requisitions.
  • Oversee the utilization of the MRP system, maintaining key planning parameters within the MRP system for data integrity, ensuring accurate and reliable output, and proactively addressing “action” messages
  • Supervise the analysis and processing of purchase requisitions and the fulfillment of work orders across multiple projects.
  • Monitor and execute project production schedules to meet the Master Production Schedule and contract delivery dates.
  • Oversee the proactive management of exceptions, such as material delays or changes, and facilitate communication to resolve issues, acting as escalation point to resolve or minimize risk to the production plan or contract date.
  • Monitor and manage key operational metrics, including MRP use, PO meeting manufacturing need-by date, work order/kitting execution, and master schedule attainment.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to materials planning and scheduling.
  • Ability to obtain a US Secret Security Clearance 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, operations management, supply chain management, or other technical discipline with a minimum of 12 years of prior related experience or Graduate Degree with a minimum of 10 years prior related experience. In lieu if a degree, 16 years of prior related experience. 

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in Materials, Planning, or Inventory management.
  • In-depth knowledge of MRP and ERP systems – SAP experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of the SIOP process.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing concepts and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Knowledge in defense program planning desired but not required.
  • Six Sigma, Lean, or APICS certification; CPIM certification highly desired.  
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to communicate, influence, and lead across multiple levels, teams, and business units.  
  • Change agent and leader who can help transform the organization and maintain a high level of engagement.  
  • Leads process improvement initiatives with little to no direction and supervision. 
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities, capable of managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and comfortable working with large datasets.
  • Excellent communication skills across all levels of the organization.

 

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Washington, and the Greater D.C, Denver, or NYC areas is $117,000 - $218,000. The salary range for this role in Colorado state, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New York state, Cleveland Ohio, and Vermont is $102,500 - $190,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
