Job Description:

As the Systems Engineering Manager based at our Mason, OH facility, you will lead a team of engineers focused on resolving complex technical challenges associated with IR sensors. Your multifaceted role encompasses functional management and direct technical contribution, potentially leading a team through activities such as technical planning, design, analysis, implementation, system integration, validation, and verification, covering all phases from concept to disposal. You will support the Integrated Mission Systems (IMS) Segment, collaborating with a cadre of highly skilled professionals who are committed to innovative engineering solutions and have established a reputation for excellence and reliability with our customers. Your primary duties include guiding a SEIT team within IR sensors market segments, providing technical direction, and overseeing the planning and staffing of your team. Working under the Senior Manager of Systems Engineering, you will ensure that resources are allocated effectively for program and proposal support, with an emphasis on continuous improvement and adherence to established systems engineering processes. Additionally, you will contribute to the development of systems engineering strategies for tasks assigned to your reports by the Project Engineer, ensuring that your team's expertise is fully leveraged in our collaborative environment.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Leadership of direct reports to ensure continuing adherence to systems engineering processes and approaches on a program
  • Responsible for determining staffing requirements and adjusting staffing levels as necessary to ensure that the IR Sensors SEIT workface is appropriately staffed with qualified individuals.
  • Responsible for coaching and development of a team between 6-12 engineers supporting IR sensor programs.
  • Responsible for career counseling for each individual with performance evaluations and career discussions throughout the year. Prepare and administer performance reviews for those individuals on their staff.
  • Review BOEs and other artifacts / deliverables for technical qualtity / process adhereance
  • Support / lead technical planning, system integration, validation, and verification activities in support of programs and development efforts.
  • Judgment and Decision Making — Consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate solution.
  • Systems Analysis — Determine how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes / performance.
  • Systems Evaluation — Identify measures or indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance relative to the goals of the system.
  • Customer Interaction – Technical Point of Contact to our customers and our suppliers.
  • Must have the ability to obtain a DoD security cleatance

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Computer, Physics, or related Engineering discipline with a minimum of 9 years of prior relevant experience or Graduate Degree with a minimum of 7 years prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
  • Must be a US Citizen

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience leading a team or project within the EO/IR (Electro-Optical/Infra-Red) sensor field
  • Demonstrated experience in a technical displine supporting EO/IR sensor or component work
  • Experience writing BOEs and supporting proposals
  • Demonstrated experience or interest in Model Based Systems Engineering
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work well within and outside of the organization including customers, vendors, and leadership with minimal oversight
  • Prior systems engineering experience on at least two DoD (or similar) programs, with at least one program being a medium scale complex system or subsystem (i.e., > 10 System Engineers and/or >$15M).
  • Knowledge of military and/or NASA component specifications, design processes, and hardware test/verification procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience with designing, developing, testing, and delivering (development life cycle)
  • Demonstrated experience in the architecture, specification, implementation, simulation, test, verification, validation, and debugging
  • Demonstrated complex problem solving and decision making — Able to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions; able to consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate solution
  • Active DoD Security Clearance
