Job Description:

As an Associate, Test Engineer, you will provide first-level support to the environmental laboratory team while engaging in production, R&D, and qualification testing. This position ensures compliance with contractual specifications through the development, validation, and execution of dynamic and/or climatic tests. The candidate will take ownership of laboratory issues, see problems through to completion, and follow standard protocol for the proper escalation of unresolved issues to the appropriate internal and/or external teams. They will work directly with test lab management and various engineering teams to ensure all tests adhere to laboratory processes and documentation.

 

 

Essential Functions:

  • Serve as the primary point of support for test equipment and processes and maintain responsibility for test execution for IR Sensor and Space Control Products.
  • Ability to prepare complex and professional test plans, procedures, reports, and work instructions to demonstrate compliance and ensure test readiness, repeatability, and on-time delivery.
  • Execute tests, record notes and anomalies, collect and analyze data, and write test reports to confirm the accuracy and consistency of data integrity.
  • Capable of operating, debugging, and identifying root causes in a variety of automated and manual test equipment, test setups, and laboratory equipment (including thermal chambers, vibration and shock systems, and assorted measurement transducers) to improve workflow and efficiency
  • Contribute to and perform failure analysis and generate recovery plans for test failures.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain onsite environmental test equipment and related fixtures. This may include vibration/shock fixtures, electrodynamic shakers, mechanically induced pyro shock beams, thermal chambers, and associated instrumentation.
  • Conduct design analysis and testing, both structural and thermal, to ensure the design meets customer requirements.
  • Implement, deploy, and maintain test fixtures and apparatuses (used for product testing) through annual assessments and data acquisition software to verify and validate overall performance.
  • Interface with management, program managers, project engineers, mechanical engineers, test technicians, as well as internal and external customers.
  • Communicate and apply lessons learned (successes, issues, and opportunities for improvement) to team member.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of experience in a traditional engineering discipline is required. Aerospace, Electrical, and/or Mechanical Engineering are preferred.
  • In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 6 years of prior related experience is required.
  • Experience reviewing and analyzing test data and working to disposition anomalies.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to frequently move test equipment weighing up to 32 pounds to test benches or to carts for transport to other areas of the facility. Occasionally lift equipment greater than 25 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to occasionally position self by climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • Constantly operate a computer and read testing procedures off a monitor.
  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods as testing requires.
  • Capability to move about inside lab, office, and manufacturing environments.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience with MIL-STD testing methods in a defense and aerospace industry
  • Experience with electronic and/or electromechanical assemblies
  • Familiarity with transducer instrumentation, data collection and or automation and software programming for numerical analysis
  • Familiarity with Environmental test equipment (vibration/shock fixtures, electrodynamic shakers, mechanically induced pyro shock beams, thermal chambers, and associated instrumentation)
  • Excellent organizational and record keeping skills
  • Ability to perform work under moderate supervision
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office® applications to include Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Possess a valid state driver’s license
  • Possess or can obtain U.S. DoD Secret Clearance or higher
  • Effectively communicates and interfaces effectively with all levels of management and senior technical personnel
  • Travel <10%
