Job Description:

 

L3Harris Londonderry, a leading designer and manufacturer of laser, night vision and electro-optic devices is seeking a Mechanical Designer to pursue a career in a fast-paced company where new designs become production reality. As a member of our product development staff, you will support mechanical teams in the creation of new technology initiatives and advancements. A variety of Mechanical Design skills, specifically in the development of high technology weapon-mounted, helmet-mounted and hand-held military products will be required to bring projects from concept to production. 

 

Essential Job Duties:

 

  • Documentation of parts and assemblies for products, tooling, and test equipment
  • Design and integration of opto-mechanical components and subsystems
  • Design and integration of electro-mechanical components and subsystems, including packaging of both rigid and flexible circuits and related interconnects
  • Design and integration of RF electronics and antennas
  • Design of molded plastic parts
  • Design of machined metal and plastic parts
  • Design for harsh environments, including shock, extreme temperature and immersion
  • Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA)
  • Design for size and weight requirements
  • Design to Unit Production Cost (DTUPC) requirements
  • Perform rapid prototyping of parts and assemblies sufficient for user concept demonstration

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years prior Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) experience.

Preferred Additional Skills:

 

  • Academic knowledge or professional experience with other related technical disciplines (electronics, software, optics, sensors, and lasers)
  • Experience creating Model Based Definition (MBD) drawings
  • Machine shop experience including work with milling and lathe operations
  • Experience with solid modeling (part and assembly) and drafting - Siemens NX and Teamcenter software preferred
  • Detailed knowledge of molded plastic design, materials, adhesives and design for manufacturing
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
