Job Description:
L3Harris Londonderry, a leading designer and manufacturer of night vision, laser and electro-optic products is seeking a motivated Mechanical Engineering Analyst to join us in a fast-paced company where new designs become production reality. As a member of our product development staff, you will be a mechanical analysis leader supporting the development of new technology and existing products. A variety of Mechanical Engineering skills, specifically in the development of high technology weapon-mounted, helmet-mounted and handheld military products will be required to bring projects from concept to production.
Essential Functions:
- Lead and perform mechanical analysis in the development of new products
- Conduct component and system level design trades and analyses
- Design and analyze for harsh MIL-STD environments, including shock/vibe, extreme temperatures and immersion
- Design and analyze optical components and mounting structures to meet alignment requirements over environmental spectrum
- Design and analyze electronics packaging of both rigid and flexible circuits and related interconnects
- Select and analyze adhesives, metals, and plastics for specific applications
- Develop and maintain material properties database for mechanical department
- Perform materials testing to augment material properties database
- Analyzed designs must meet design for manufacturing, assembly, size, weight, and DTUPC project requirements
- Utilize FEA & CFD tools to perform structural & thermal analysis on components and assemblies
- Perform mechanical design verification testing, use results to correlate analytical models
- Lead and support root cause corrective action (RCCA) teams in the resolution of technical issues
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree with 9 years prior experience, Graduate Degree with 7 years prior experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Experience developing engineering hardware within the defense, aerospace, or medical product fields
- Experience with MCAD/PLM: Siemens NX, Teamcenter, FEA/CFD: Siemens NX, NASTRAN
- Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) aligned with latest ASME Y14.5 standard
- Knowledge of molded plastic design, materials, adhesives and DFMA
- Experience with task scoping, prioritization, and execution to project schedules
- Experience with SOPs, process control and standardization of work output
- Experience supporting high volume production sustainment efforts, including RCCA and coordination between operations, supply chain and external vendors.
- Optomechanical and electromechanical design and analysis
