Job Description:
The Field Service department is looking for a highly motivated and talented Technician to provide quality service and repair of complex MX-20/25 airborne surveillance turrets. The FSR will provide full-time technical support and interface with a dedicated strategic customer. This field support will occur directly onsite with this customer at their facility at Hurlburt AFB, Florida. Additionally, the FSR may also be required to deploy internationally to work assignments overseas at remote locations around the world on an “on call” basis. These overseas deployments could include hazardous conflict regions. FSR must always project a positive image of our department and company that will meet our customer's highest expectations for service and support of their L3Harris Technologies equipment.
This position requires a self-motivated, creative, forward-thinking, and energetic individual. Excellent communication, relationship building, and problem-solving skills are a must. The ability to interface well with demanding customers as well as co-workers is critical. The best MX-Series field technicians are strong team players and customer focused. FSR must work well independently and can be relied upon to make difficult decisions that will affect the performance and availability of mission critical systems.
Essential Functions:
- The most important performance objective for this department is to Repair, Test and Maintain Wescam MX-20/25 sensor systems in accordance with pre-established processes, while adhering to customer deadlines. A successful MX Field Technician understands the gimbal system, understands how all components work together including peripheral interfaces, and able to effectively troubleshoot, repair and test a failed system.
- Objective is to become proficient in troubleshooting, repair, and servicing of Wescam MX-20/25 systems within 90 days. Initial MX Training will include formal 2-week training course, followed by extensive on-the-job training requirements.
- Knowledge and application of troubleshooting electronics and mechanical systems, customer service skills and being a part of a motivated and diverse team.
- Be part of a motivated extended team that supports various U.S. Homeland Security, Law Enforcement, and DOD Military customers by repairing mission critical Wescam sensor systems.
- May be a resource to other employees in areas of expertise. Assignments are moderately difficult requiring some judgment.
- Being creative, open-minded and a good listener.
- Work may be structured within identified boundaries and procedures. Follows established processes to complete tasks. Identifies problems and issues in straightforward situations.
- Complete all necessary service and repair documentation as well as technical trip reports.
- Provide Wescam Training to customers on MX-20/25 operations and operator-level maintenance procedures.
Qualifications:
- Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 3 years of prior related experience.
- 5+ years’ experience as an electro-mechanical technician on products that are similar in complexity, a successful track record of career growth over time and prior experience servicing systems in the field and in the factory.
- 4 years’ experience with electronic and mechanical test equipment is required.
- 4 years’ experience troubleshooting and repairing problems related to product aircraft integration, electronics and mechanical systems, down to the line replaceable unit level and work with Quality & Manufacturing Engineering to take corrective actions.
- 4 years prior FSR experience in both CONUS and OCONUS repair assignments and tasks, is desired. Equivalent military experience would be considered.
- Normal work shift is 9/80 schedule (40 hours/week). Must be available to provide occasional off hour or weekend tasks in support of the customer requirements, as needed.
- Willingness & ability to support assignments at OCONUS sites for short-term deployment periods is required.
- May be required to travel to other international sites. Performs work-related duties in extreme environments and difficult living conditions.
- Must be willing and physically able to work outdoors in environmental conditions with temperatures in excess of 120 degrees.
- When overseas, FSR must be able to work 12 hours per day, 7 days per week and be on call 24/7. Typical schedule at OCONUS locations is 84 hours/week.
- Employment is contingent upon meeting all medical requirements for overseas assignment including comprehensive post-offer medical examination.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Active DoD Secret clearance or higher is preferred.
- Special Operations, AFSOC, DOD, Airborne Law Enforcement or other similar experience is desired.
- 4 years’ experience with MS Office applications including Word and Excel is required as well as with specialized software test programs.
- 4 years’ experience communicating clearly (written and verbal) with technical and non-technical customers (internal/external).
- Direct experience with systems integration, software, optical, and electro-mechanical systems is preferred. Previous work experience with aircraft, tower, or aerostat-based MX-20/25 sensor systems is highly desired.
- Familiarity with government contracting is preferred but not required.
- Previous experience communicating with contacts, within and outside the department, on matters that involve obtaining or providing information requiring explanation or interpretation to reach an understanding/agreement.
- Previous success working under limited supervision or autonomously.
- Previous experience successfully prioritizing and managing multiple projects at one time. This would include proven, acute attention to detail & excellent organizational skills.
Working Conditions:
- Considerable time standing, bending, twisting, bending, and kneeling while building a variety of assemblies.
- Lifting 50 pounds occasionally and reaching for items on shelves
- Working with general manufacturing hand tools, computers and electronic troubleshooting tools such as oscilloscopes, multi-meters, power supplies.
- Use of basic hand tools for mechanical assembly, metalworking machines and precision measuring and testing instruments.
- This position will require the ability to travel overseas. Up to 90% travel may be required.
- Work may be conducted onsite at the customer location, flight line, aviation hangar, test facility, in the field or in a manufacturing/test environment.
- Must be able to work in fast-paced, schedule driven environment, without sacrificing product quality. Ability to logically address, analyze, and resolve problems.
