Job Description:

 

Aerojet Rocketdyne is seeking a Senior Specialist, Ballistics Engineer, to support our Huntsville, AL (Headquarters) operations.

This position is responsible for leading the Missile Solutions Engineering Ballistics projects within the Design and Analysis group. This group focuses on the design, analysis and integration of solid propellant based propulsion systems with specific responsibility for Internal Ballistics and Solid Propulsion Performance. Programs supported include both military and commercial applications. This is a fast paced environment that requires knowledge of the entire value stream from proposals to product implementation.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • 40% - Lead ballistic modeling activities: - Perform trades for grain design that meet performance requirements. - Conduct grain design, performance analysis, pretest predictions with established methodologies for motor test firings. - Conduct post firing data correlations and/or burning rate analysis with established methodologies. - Analyze ballistic and propellant data for model updates. - Prepare technical reports and presentations documenting all activities.
  • 30% - Develops and implements processes and tools as appropriate for the Missile Solutions Engineering Ballistics group for continued development, education and training. Provides input to Technical Road Maps and IR&D projects. Works across the company to ensure consistent application of best practices in performing job responsibilities.
  • 20% - Provides technical guidance, mentoring and training to less experienced Engineers within Ballistics group. Reviews work products of peers and less experienced engineer to ensure technical adequacy. Participates in Technical Meetings (internal and external) as required to ensure technical content and maintain knowledge in this field.
  • 10% - Works closely with the Business Development, Program Management, and Engineering Leadership to develop solutions and response to potential customer Propulsion system inquiries and proposal support.
  • Travel: 10%

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 6 years of propulsion design engineering experience. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 4 years of prior propulsion design engineering experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior propulsion design engineeringexperience.
  • Knowledge of DoD Security Regulation is required.
  • EAR/ITAR experience required.
  • Active US Secret Clearance.

 

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering (or other related discipline) is preferred.
  • Advanced degree preferred, but not required.
  • Demonstrated supervisory and strong communication skills managing a team of engineers with multiple assignments and priorities.
  • Experience with design and analysis of solid propulsion systems essential.
  • Understanding of and planning skills for technology development for new propulsion products, including familiarity with performance metrics such as cost, schedule, and variance analysis.
  • Experience with Software & Engineering Associates, Inc Solid Performance Program (SPP) desired.
