Job Description

L3Harris is a recognized leader in aerospace and defense propulsion, providing solid, tactical, strategic, and hypersonic propulsion solutions for domestic and international customers. The Solid Propulsion Design Engineer supports component- and system‑level design activities for solid propulsion systems across development and production programs. This role evaluates design options, supports engineering problem-solving, coordinates with cross-functional teams, and contributes to improvements in performance, manufacturability, and cost. The engineer may lead small project teams, collaborate across engineering functions, and participate in design reviews to ensure technical accuracy and program success.

 

Essential Functions

• Perform engineering assignments requiring the application of propulsion design concepts, engineering practices, and industry standards.
• Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contractual requirements to ensure compliance with technical expectations.
• Investigate design considerations such as manufacturability, inspect ability, material selection, strength-to-weight tradeoffs, and cost.
• Perform engineering calculations and tolerance analyses in accordance with configuration and design requirements.
• Support development of alternative design solutions and resolution of engineering issues.
• Prepare and revise Creo 10 CAD models and drawings of moderate complexity within the Windchill PLM system; manage assemblies and engineering Bills of Materials.
• Support checking and validation of engineering product definition for compliance with company standards, design directives, and customer requirements.
• Explain job-area processes, practices, and procedures to internal stakeholders.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance.

 

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree and 4 years of related engineering experience; OR Graduate Degree and 2 years of related experience; OR In lieu of a degree, 10 years of related engineering experience.

 

Preferred Additional Skills

• Experience with Creo CAD tools and Windchill PLM systems.
• Familiarity with ASME Y14.5 GD&T principles.
• Knowledge of solid propulsion design and manufacturing methods.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
