Job Description:

 

L3Harris is seeking an experienced, proactive, and solutions-focused Sr. Principal, Counsel to join the Missile Solutions (MSL) segment as the Propulsion Solutions (PS) Sector Counsel.  Reporting to the Vice President, General Counsel of the MSL segment, this role operates as a legal specialist and business partner in providing strategic, proactive, and practical legal counsel within the PS sector. 

 

  • Partners with leaders to assess, predict, and manage legal and other risks in a growing business operating internationally.
  • Advises, counsels, and functions as a trusted business partner on legal and other matters related to the business objectives of the sector.
  • Provides legal guidance and counseling on risk mitigation strategies, contract interpretation and provisions, dispute resolution, and other legal issues.
  • Negotiates, researches, drafts, revises, and / or analyzes agreements, contracts, memoranda, legal correspondence, and other legal documents.
  • Engages in factual investigation, analyzes complex legal and factual issues, conducts extensive legal research, independently develops, recommends, and presents strategies on a wide range of legal matters.
  • Ensures that sector practices and procedures comply with global, federal, state and local laws and regulations, and are consistent with applicable corporate policies and procedures.
  • Engages with customer counterparts as reasonably required in support of addressing certain complex legal / business transactional matters.
  • Collaborates with operational, subcontracts and supply chain leadership to ensure that contractual and operational risks assumed by the business are flowed down to subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Monitors, reviews, and resolves day-to day legal and regulatory issues as they are assigned.
  • Maintains knowledge of current and emerging laws, regulations, and trends.
  • Government contracts experience within the US DoW market, including both U.S. and international government and commercial customers.
  • Strong negotiation and dispute resolution skills are required.
  • Personal commitment to ethics and compliance, and experience working in an environment with high ethical standards.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 15 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 19 years of prior related experience. 
  • JD from an accredited law school.
  • A minimum of 10 years of legal experience, with a focus on federal government contracts, regulatory compliance, and procurement.
  • Member in good standing of a state bar. If not a member of the Alabama State Bar, then the ability to obtain admission to the Alabama State Bar as authorized house counsel.

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

 

  • Proven track record of creating and implementing policies, procedures, and process improvements that drive efficiency and operational excellence.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS), and subcontract flowdown requirements in government contracting environments.
  • Experience leading change management initiatives and influencing stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong client-relations and interpersonal skills, as well as excellent judgment and superior written and oral communication and analytical skills.
  • Detail-oriented, with the ability to work effectively and collaboratively across multiple teams and functions.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple time-sensitive tasks effectively and independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Litigation and alternative dispute resolution experience.
  • Previous role in a top-tier law firm or as in-house counsel with a government contractor.
