Job Description:
The Aerojet Rocketdyne Segment of L3Harris is seeking a part time Principal Quality Engineer to work at either our existing state-of-the-art Advanced Manufacturing Facility (AMF) in Toney, AL, and/or our AMF in Huntsville, AL, which will be our inert manufacturing facility for fabrication and assembly of composite rocket motor hardware. The Principal Quality Engineer will be a key player in enhancing our quality system and ensuring our ability to meet customer demand in a high-rate volume manufacturing setting. This role requires an internal expert and thought leader with broad experience across multiple job areas, focusing on the implementation of Statistical Process Control (SPC). The Principal Quality Engineer will work under consultative direction to manage large, complex project initiatives of strategic importance to the organization. This is a part time role, working two 9 hour days each week.
Essential Functions:

Statistical Process Control (SPC) Implementation:

Lead the development and implementation of SPC methodologies to monitor and control manufacturing processes.

Design and develop SPC charts, control plans, and related documentation to ensure process stability and capability.

Train and mentor manufacturing and quality teams on SPC principles and practices.

Quality System Improvement:
-
Identify opportunities for quality system enhancements and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Develop and implement quality control plans, procedures, and policies to meet industry standards and customer requirements.

Utilize data-driven approaches to identify root causes of quality issues and implement corrective actions.

Project Management:
-
Manage large, complex projects related to quality improvement and SPC implementation.

Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables, and ensure timely completion within budget.

Coordinate cross-functional teams to achieve project goals and milestones.

Leadership and Influence:
-
Act as a thought leader and internal expert in quality engineering and SPC.
-
Communicate effectively within and outside the organization to influence leadership and stakeholders to adopt new practices and concepts.

Provide consultative direction and guidance to teams and departments on quality-related matters.

Innovation and Development:

Develop or champion new systems, concepts, or technologies to enhance quality and manufacturing processes.

Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements in quality engineering and SPC.

Recommend tactics and strategies that directly impact the achievement of overall business or functional results.

Ensure that quality systems and processes meet or exceed customer expectations and requirements.

Collaborate with customers to understand their needs and address any quality-related concerns.

Monitor customer feedback and implement improvements based on their input.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

Analyze quality data and generate reports to track performance and identify trends.

Provide insights and recommendations based on data analysis to drive decision-making.

Develop metrics and KPIs to measure the effectiveness of quality initiatives and SPC implementation.

Ability to obtain US Security Clearence.
Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 12 years of prior Quality experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 10 years of prior Quality experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 16 years of prior Quality experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:

Experience collaborating within a Microsoft 365 environment, with proficiency in the included applications (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)

Project Management experience.

Supplier/Customer Support expereince.
-
Regulatory & Auditing (AS9100) in the Aerospace and Defense Industry.

Statistical Analysis experience.
-
Risk Management experience.
