Job Description:

L3Haris is seeking a Manufacturing Technician to work at our state-of-the-art Advanced Manufacturing Facility (AMF) North in Huntsville, AL, which is our inert manufacturing facility for fabrication and assembly of small, medium and large case composite rocket motor hardware.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform basic operations on filament winding machines under supervision, with a good understanding of fiber placement and tension control.
  • Assist in resin mixing and resin content checks.
  • Properly string up a towpreg winding cell, including handling the spools, stringing up the filament winding machines, and assembling/maintaining the towpreg delivery head.
  • Primarily works in a production setting with medium sized products.
  • May provide lesser supporting role in larger and complex products.
  • Learn to fabricate skirt (Skirt Dam Installation, Film Adhesive application, Unidirectional Mat application).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve less complex issues with the winding process or equipment.
  • Provide feedback on the winding process and collaborate with engineers to address concerns.
  • Produce parts, components and final assemblies using composite fabrication, compression molding, metal fabrication, modification, checkout, re-work, quality testing, and assembly utilizing detailed work instructions, schematics, diagrams, layouts or manufacturing test development or diagnostic equipment.
  • Prepare various components for lay-up, filament winding, cure and post cure using cured and uncured rubber materials and adhesives.
  • Operation of various machinery and shop equipment which may include but not be limited to ovens, autoclaves, manual lathes, CNC lathes, CNC milling centers, manual mills, boring mills, presses, furnaces, mixers, grinders, swages, paint booths, fume hoods and overhead cranes.
  • Fabrication and assembly of piece parts into completed sub-assembly using assembly tools.
  • Perform vacuum bagging and related processes for fabrication and curing composite parts.
  • Complete structural bonding operations using film adhesives, core materials, and adhesives.
  • Building of complex layups individually and in small groups.
  • Build, clean, and properly store large tooling.
  • Insulation of mandrels and composite cases.
  • Cast, cure and machining of sand mandrels.
  • Facilitate and conduct OJT training of technicians as required.
  • Works with management and supervision to meet critical deadlines.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and minor repairs without supervision. Ensure the wind cell and winding machines are kept clean and in an orderly fashion.
  • Monitor the production process more closely and take responsibility for intermediate-level quality control checks.
  • Accurately complete necessary forms and reports related to the manufacturing process.
  • Support safety initiatives and adhere to 5S+1 standards
  • Produce development hardware to support research and development programs.
  • Troubleshoot processes and identify, modify and/or escalate out of control processes and production escapes.
  • Assist in the development of process improvement actions within the facility

 

Qualifications:

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 4 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience.
