Job Description:
This position sets up and operates a variety of machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, precision grinders, etc. to make parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions.
Essential Functions:
- Interprets blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications.
- Determine sequence of operations, number of cuts required and method of setup and arrangement.
- Work with a variety of machinist’s hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
- Make shop computations.
- Fit and put together precision parts and determine material, parts and equipment required.
- Fabricate piece parts per work instructions, drawings and specifications through the use of required machine tools.
- Inspect piece parts per work instruction and drawing requirements.
- Set up and operate machine tools.
- Use, adjust, clean, and store the tools, machinery and equipment used.
- Keeps records and reports of the use of equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 4 years of prior machinist experience or Secondary/Associates Degree with 0 to 2 years of prior machinist experience.
- Experience as a manual machinist on a conventional lathe and CNC machining in an industrial / manufacturing environment.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- A trade school certification or state-licensed Journeyman Machinist certification is strongly desired.
- Manual machining experience is preferred.
- Working knowledge of setting up the operation of milling machines and lathes.
- Working knowledge of engineering drawings, blueprints, production plans and/or work instructions.
- Working knowledge performing in-process inspection of finished parts utilizing appropriate inspection and gaging equipment.
- Knowledge of industry applicable laws, codes, ordinances and regulations.
- Knowledge of machine tools and equipment, machine shop procedures and practices, principals and properties. Knowledge of basic mathematic principles to solve problems.
