Job Description:
L3Harris is seeking a Test Technician/ Electrical Technician to work at our state-of-the-art Advanced Manufacturing Facility (AMF) North in Huntsville, AL, which is our inert manufacturing facility for fabrication and assembly of large case composite rocket motor hardware.
Essential Functions:
- 30% - Composite Testing:
- Perform tests utilizing complex instrumentation and equipment including, but not limited to, Load cells, Pressure transducers, strain gages, thermocouples, accelerometers & video cameras
- Prepare various components for testing
- Knowledge of thermocouples, high-pressure applications, pneumatics, hydraulics, pumps, test sequences, tooling, and torqueing/ installing components.
- Installation of thermocouples, strain gauges, pressure transducers, sensors and connection to test equipment
- Building of complex layups individually and in small groups.
- Build, clean, and properly store large tooling
- Insulation of mandrels and composite cases.
- Cast, cure and machining of sand mandrels.
- Facilitate and conduct OJT training of technicians as required.
- Works with management and supervision to meet critical deadlines.
25% - Assisting Engineering
- Review designs and specifications with Engineers and other advanced technicians.
- Assist in developing standard operating procedures and special instructions necessary to support processing of rocket motors
20% - Troubleshoot & Verify Setup:
- Troubleshoot and check out instrumentation problems such as a shorted or open circuit due to instrument cable problems. Review Test Plans for possible instrumentation conflicts or inaccessible areas.
- Troubleshoot and be able to set the Conditioning box controls. Handle the set up and activation of a test equipment such as Hydrologger, Vishay Amplifier, Micro-welder, or Multimeter (VOM).
10% - Development work:
- Support Process Engineers by setting up, operating experimental or prototype equipment to meet processing requirements
- Produce development hardware to support research and development programs.
- Troubleshoot processes and identify, modify and/or escalate out of control processes and production escapes.
- Assist in the development of process improvement actions within the facility
- 10% - Perform analysis, calculations, statistics, and prepare reports on above activities.
- 5% - Support:

- Coordinate with maintenance, supervision and/or engineers in the set-up and calibration of equipment.
- Participate in preventative maintenance activities.
- Clean machines, equipment, and work area according to Standard Operating Procedures
- Support safety initiatives and adhere to 5S+1 standards.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 6 years of prior electrical technician experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with 0 to 2 years of prior electrical technician experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Computer software background.
- Previous experience with varying data acquisition.
- Previous experience with micro-welding instrumentation or soldering instrumentation.
- Experience or courses completed on Blueprint reading or Geometric Tolerancing.
- Ability to perform engineering mathematical calculations.
- Ability to create simple drawings and sketches for communication purposes.
- Experience with the set up and activation of test equipment such as, Hydrologger, Vishay Amplifier, Micro-welder or Multimeter (VOM).
- Previous experience working with complex instrumentation and equipment
- Previous experience with strain gauges, thermal couples, hydraulics, pneumatics.
- Experience with component level troubleshooting.
