Job Description:
We are seeking an Engineering Technician (NDT) Level C to support our state‑of‑the‑art Advanced Manufacturing Facility (AMF) in Huntsville, AL, which serves as our inert manufacturing facility for the fabrication and assembly of composite rocket motor hardware.
The Nondestructive Test (NDT) Engineering Technician performs nondestructive radiographic (X‑ray) inspections on various materials and products. Responsibilities include setting up and maintaining equipment, ensuring proper calibration, and conducting inspections using automated and manual methods. The technician interprets, evaluates, and reports test results to determine product compliance and quality.
Essential Functions:
• Read and interpret information from planning documents, drawings, specifications, engineering orders, and inspection procedures.
• Develop work instructions based on approved general procedures.
• Work with higher‑level NDT engineers to establish radiographic (X‑ray) inspection procedures.
• Set up and operate industrial radiographic (X‑ray) and film‑processing equipment.
• Detect and identify defects using radiographic techniques, including cracks, inclusions, segregations, cavities, undercuts, incomplete fusion, and porosity.
• Determine acceptability of items with marginal defects and reject items that do not meet required standards and specifications.
• Set up and calibrate equipment with limited oversight from higher‑level NDT engineers.
• Prepare components for nondestructive testing using available equipment and processes.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Requires proficient knowledge of the job area; may have practical knowledge of project management.
• Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 4 years of prior relevant experience; or a graduate degree with a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
• Ability to travel to other facilities to support X‑ray work as required.
• Ability to work effectively in a digital work environment.
• Ability to collaborate in a team‑based environment.
• Willingness to learn and grow as part of ongoing development.
Preferred Additional Skills:
• Certification as a Level II Radiographic Inspector (ASNT/NAS‑410 or equivalent).
• Knowledge of applicable laws, codes, ordinances, and regulations.
• Knowledge of inspection techniques, tools, and equipment.
• Knowledge of nondestructive testing methods.
• Ability to interpret engineering specifications, drawings, blueprints, production plans, and work instructions.
