Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled, wide breadth of responsibility and a motivated Systems Engineer to join our team. The role involves evaluating product specifications, conducting trade studies, and performing critical analysis of subcomponents. While this is not a Project Engineer (PE) role, the Systems Engineer will have to manage a team of engineers from various disciplines and oversee CAM (Control Account Management) activities for the assigned project.
Reporting to the Director of Engineering, Undersea Systems, this person is responsible for the leadership and execution of programs out of Herndon, VA. The person will be responsible for overseeing the full system life cycle and include responsibilities from contract review, development, installation, customer interface, and support.
Essential Functions:
- Evaluate product specifications to ensure they meet project requirements and standards.
- Conduct trade studies to compare different design options and select the most appropriate solutions.
- Perform critical analysis of subcomponents to identify potential issues and ensure optimal performance.
- Manage a multidisciplinary team of engineers, providing guidance and support to achieve project goals including preliminary design, design integration and formal testing.
- Oversee CAM activities, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation for the program.
- Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of systems and components.
- Develop and maintain documentation related to system design, analysis, and testing.
- Participate in design reviews, technical meetings, and project planning sessions.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
- Be responsible for developing, monitoring, and controlling technical aspects of programs to schedules and budgets and act as an advisor to technical staff members to resolve issues.
- Supports new business pursuits and proposal cost reviews to ensure proper technology readiness, Design to Cost and resource alignment
- Must be able to obtain a DOD secret security clearance
- Office-based with occasional travel to project sites or meetings as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering discipline and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience, Grad degree and 4 years of experience, lieu of a degree, 10 years of experience
- US Citizen
- Proven experience in systems engineering life cycle, with a focus on evaluating product specifications and conducting trade studies.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to perform critical analysis of subcomponents.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Knowledge of CAM principles and experience managing CAM activities.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- In-depth knowledge of project management and systems engineering philosophies
- Communicates within and outside of the organization to explain and influence changes to practices, processes and approaches
- Provides input into new products/processes and implements operational plans that have measurable impact on business or functional results
- Excellent computer skills with strong proficiency in Windows interface, Microsoft Office package (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Visio). Working knowledge of project management systems.
- Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, & presentation)
- Willingness to travel

- Project Management Professional (PMP)
- Experience in aerospace, defense, or related industries.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations.
- Familiarity with maritime products and undersea acoustics
- Active DoD Secret Security Clearance
