The L3Harris Surveillance and Automation Solutions Business Area has an opening for a Systems Integration & Test Engineer. The successful candidate will be supporting the ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast) program; the space-based extension of ADS-B, Aireon; and other systems being developed by this organization. As a System Integration & Test Engineer, you will be on the team responsible for providing Tier 3 support to the Surveillance and Broadcast Services System (SBSS). This includes conducting software application deployments and configuration changes across the system; supporting root cause analysis activities; and conducting acceptance testing on software applications and hardware. The working environment is challenging, dynamic, and fast-paced. This position offers hands-on experience in a wide variety of disciplines, including systems integration and test (I&T), networking (supporting vendor with network design and troubleshooting); data processing and analysis; and troubleshooting issues on the operational system. The role interfaces with multiple engineering disciplines including system engineering, software development, test engineering, in addition to configuration management, remote field technicians, and the customer.
Essential Functions:
- Provide daily Tier III engineering support (troubleshooting complex operational issues, performing root cause analysis, working with FAA staff, etc.) to a mission critical air traffic control system with a 0.99999 availability requirement.
- Instill process discipline and a culture of accountability focused on customer satisfaction and supreme quality.
- Integrate hardware and software system components within a lab environment.
- Develop test scenarios and conduct acceptance tests for Level 2 requirements of software applications and hardware.
- Integrate remote radios and radars into the operational system while troubleshooting issues such as RF interference, network issues, etc.
- Implement changes to the operational system including deployment of software applications, making adaptation changes, upgrading hardware such as radios, network equipment and servers.
- Develop and maintain deployment schedule with inputs from FAA PMO and L3Harris Program Management.
- Author and present System Change Proposals to Engineering Review Board and Change Control Boards, identifying deployment strategy, customer impact, and risk assessment.
- Provide directions and help set priorities for the I&T Team related to deployment schedule.
- Work with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate schedules and identified and quantified risk.
- Host and participate in software configuration reviews.
- Manage and maintain program/project management tools, metrics, and related processes.
- Instill process discipline and a culture of accountability focused on customer satisfaction and supreme quality.
- Works with minimal supervision, manages own time effectively, maintains control over all current projects/responsibilities. Follows up on all relevant issues; proactive.
- Minimal travel within the US anticipated.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, there is a minimum of 9 years of prior related experience.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with Linux operating systems, including shell scripting.
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience troubleshooting complex system-related issues, performing root cause analysis, and correcting issues.
- Demonstrated experience generating test plans and procedures; conducting test campaigns; and documenting test results.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Experience trouble-shooting complex systems consisting of hardware, software, and communications systems.
- Candidate should be able to work independently, able to prioritize customer issues and needs, and work across a wide variety of systems.
- Experience working with Field Engineers and providing Tier III engineering support.
- Previous experience with FAA systems/programs is a plus.
- The successful candidate will possess strong initiative with an ability to work in a dynamic team-oriented environment, and strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Washington DC is $100,000 - $185,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
