Job Description:

L3Harris Technologies is seeking an experienced, dynamic Senior Systems Engineer/Solution Architect to work closely with the Modeling & Analysis team, Enterprise Architects, Chief Engineers, Business Development, and other program personnel to shape opportunities, define and advance architecture and requirements utilizing model-based approaches in support of the National Airspace System modernization.

Essential Functions:

  • Providing support to ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints
  • Functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications
  • Leveraging customer and domain knowledge to define business use cases
  • Developing models and tools leveraging MATLAB, STK, and similar tool -including home-grown tools
  • Capturing digital thread information to show top to bottom traceability of requirements/compliance information
  • Analyzing needs of the system and translating them into verifiable performance and design requirements
  • Coordination and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, as appropriate
  • Evaluating RFPs/RFIs and generating responses in collaboration with Business Development team
  • Leveraging customer and domain knowledge to define business use cases
  • Managing customer requirements and flowdown in specifications to determine implementation approach
  • Analyzing needs of the system and translating them into verifiable performance and design requirements and algorithms
  • Coordination and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, as appropriate.
  • Ability to obtain Public Trust Clearance.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, there is a minimum of 16 years of prior related experience.
  • 13+ years demonstrated experience in a Sr Systems, Sr Software Engineer, or Systems Architect overseeing large-scale low-latency, high-availability services.
  • Ability to obtain Public Trust Clearance
  • Travel Requirement: Up to 25%

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Understanding of the System of Systems National Airspace System (NAS) architecture and its relation to the NAS functional and performance requirements
  • Prior work experience on a FAA NAS Program during the System Implementation phase of the AMS lifecycle and successful deployment/integration into the NAS
  • Experience with development of solutions into mixed on-premises and Cloud environments
  • Experience structuring and guiding mid- to upper-TRL research and development
  • Experience with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and/or service-oriented architecture (SOA) with focus on Micro Services architecture
  • Experience applying data analytics to enable risk-based decision making and efficient system operations
  • Experience/participation in FAA Collaborative decision-making forums and NextGen Advisory Committee/Sub-committees/Integrated Working Groups
  • Membership and/or participation in ATCA, ICNS or other ANSP-related organizations

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Washington DC is $150,000 - $278,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
