Job Description:

Due to substantial growth in our business L3Harris has an immediate need for a senior level Optical Engineer. We are seeking an experienced professional with practical knowledge of the photonics area. This key role will provide technical insight for our existing technologies and develop new technologies to capture and lead new programs with our military, government, and commercial customers.

Essential Functions: 

  • Optical Architect providing guidance to drive entire system/program
  • Chief Engineer for a custom Fiber Optics Component Program
  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise to similar program
  • Define product roadmaps for area technology

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Physics/Optics/Optical Engineering, quantum science with focus in sensing, computing, and/or crypto or related field and a minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 16 years of prior related experience.
  • Ability to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance
  • Professional experience in physical and system modeling, for optical and/or photonics systems
  • Professional experience generating technical data for multiple business proposals
  • Professional experience providing technical leadership on multiple subcontracts
  • 4+ years of experience developing prototype optical systems
  • 4+ years of experience leading a product development team

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • PhD in Physics/Optics/Optical Engineering, quantum science with focus in sensing, computing, and/or crypto or related field
  • Active TS/SCI security clearance
  • Experience in the design, modeling, development, and testing of quantum sensors, and in particular Rydberg electric field sensors
  • Experience/capability in quantum physics applicable to the development of quantum technologies, including but not limited to, quantum sensing, quantum time distribution, entanglement, and entanglement distribution
  • Experience/capability in atomic, molecular, and optical (AMO) physics theory
  • EO Communications: Physical layer systems, components (EDFA, Modulators, SFPs, Switches, etc.) and modules for optical communication systems
  • Coherent RF Photonics: Transport and processing of analog signals (radar, wireless communications, etc.) on optical systems
  • Photonic Integrated Circuits: Improving Size Weight and Power (SWaP) for photonics systems utilizing photonic integrated circuits
  • Optical multi-input multi-output (MIMO) digital signal processing (DSP): Improving optical system throughput and bit error rate (BER) using post processing techniques
  • Photonic Modeling: Ability to model photonic systems using one or more of the following software packages: MATLAB, OptSim, BeamProp, Zemax, HFSS
  • Experience with product development for government contracts
