About your next Challenge as a Senior Engineer, Naval Communication Systems:

The ideal candidate will have a strong and practical understanding of the design, operation, and maintenance of naval communications and information systems. This includes experience with shipboard communication systems such as satellite communications, radios and antennas, as well as telephony systems and data networks.  Success criteria for role will include:

  • Positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders are developed and maintained;
  • Design work is produceable, fit for purpose, and compliant with requirements;
  • Work outputs are recorded accurately and in accordance with information and change management processes;
  • Assigned work packages are managed effectively and in accordance with company policies and procedures;
  • Engineering milestones are achieved (e.g. design reviews, test events) 

 

What will you do:

The candidate will work with the Communications Systems - Canada team to:

  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee the engineering work to design and deliver naval communication systems;
  • Contribute to bids and proposals by analyzing customer requirements, developing system architectures, selecting subsystems and/or components, evaluating design compliance and technical risks, and preparing engineering basis of estimates;
  • Work with project engineers, customers and stakeholders to plan engineering metrics and report progress;
  • Participate in design working groups to resolve design issues and/or conflicts;
  • Prepare and review engineering artefacts such as trade studies, systems specifications, system architecture and interface documents, and engineering analyses and ensure that quality objectives are achieved;
  • Manage the configuration of designs and design documentation;
  • Prepare and present design review packages; and
  • Manage budget and resources for allocated work packages.
  • Prepare and manage engineering change packages;
  • Manage system interfaces;
  • Coordinate with customer and vendor representatives, respond to information requests, and manage action items;
  • Conduct technical investigations and provide engineering support services in cooperation with the L3Harris MAPPS field service team;
  • Plan and coordinate installation, set-to-work, and test and trial activities at land-based and ship-board platforms; and
  • Travel occasionally within Canada to support customers or to meet with other business units or vendors. 

 

Required Skills and Experiences:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience; or a college diploma in electronics and a minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree;
  • Strong knowledge of systems engineering;
  • Proficient with software tools used for systems engineering (ie. requirements management, systems architecture and modeling, engineering change management, product life-cycle management, etc.);
  • Experience integrating shipboard communication systems;
  • Experience working on defence projects;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills whether physically present or telecommuting;
  • Planning, organization and information management skills; and
  • Experience estimating and managing budget, schedule, and resources.

 

Preferred additional skills, education and certifications:

  • Basic knowledge of project management;
  • Licensed Professional Engineer or other relevant professional certification; and

Eligibility Criteria (Mandatory):

  • Must be eligible for registration with the Controlled Goods Program;
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a government of Canada “Reliability” status and Level 2 (Secret) security clearance.
  • Must be eligible to meet the requirements for U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
