The Field Engineering Representative (FSR) is responsible for operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of Halifax Class Integrated Platform Management System (HCI) contract. The ideal candidate will have a strong and practical understanding of the operation and maintenance of Marine Control Systems and Computer Networking systems. This field support will primarily occur onboard ships at the Halifax Dockyard and at the L3Harris office in Halifax NS.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Resolve hardware / software / system issues in accordance with technical manuals, schematics, engineering drawings, and written/verbal instructions;
  • The FSR will work within a SLA (service-level agreement) framework which guides how much time is allowed for ticket response and handling;
  • Install and test Engineering Changes for IPMS in support of HCI;
  • Support L3Harris Engineering staff with assigned tasks between periods of onboard ship work;
  • Assist in the development and delivery of technical training and materials to the customer and DND;
  • The candidate could cross train on the L3Harris Naval Communication System to enable support of other L3Harris FSR’s but the primary role will be the Halifax Class IPMS;
  • The FSR may be called upon to travel domestically or internationally on occasion to support the customer.

 

Required Skills and Experiences:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or a certified Communications/Electronics Technician with at least 8 years of hands-on experience in the field;
  • Advanced computer skills & Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Comprehensive shipboard experience with communication systems.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Excellent problem analysis and troubleshooting skills;
  • Experience reading electrical and mechanical drawings with the ability to produce technical documentation;
  • Experience with wiring and splicing, including soldering and termination;
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision;
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment;
  • Strong aptitude in time management: able to set priorities and organize workload assigned in an efficient manner;
  • Ability to operate test equipment (Multimeter, oscilloscopes, multifunction process calibrator and other bench and field equipment);
  • Ability to operate various hand & power tools;
  • Well versed in acceptance trials and set to work procedures;
  • Knowledge in IT System Administration an asset;
  • Current or previous J-STD-001 / IPC-A-620 certification an asset;            
  • Knowledge with DRMIS an asset;
  • The candidate must be physically capable to work onboard Naval vessels, traversing multiple decks, carrying tools or equipment, performing component installation and removals. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs;
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license is required;
  • Possession or able to obtain a valid Passport for occasional travel as required.

 

Eligibility Criteria (Mandatory):

  • Must be eligible for registration with the Controlled Goods Program;
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a government of Canada “Reliability” status and Level 2 (Secret) security clearance.
